The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Neurology is seeking a Clinical Services Specialist to provide daily administrative, clinical, and operational support to the Neurology Ambulatory Clinic, as well as secondary support to other clinics within the Neurology Department as needed.
The Clinic Services Specialist acts as a resource on patient/clinical workflow: such as informatics (EHR), patient appointment systems, care coordination, billing/compliance, and management of medical information for a clinic team.
Job Duties to Include:
Provide daily administrative, clinical, and operational support to the Department of Neurology
Coordinate clinical visits and procedures in a multidisciplinary environment.
Communicate with patients and external entities and manage the pre-visit activities by triaging patient inquiries.
Provide support to the clinical teams of these divisions on inpatient clinic days, including managing patient and faculty/staff schedules.
Conduct post visit activities. Follow up with referring providers and patients for the completion of medical forms and questionnaires.
Provide operational support to clinical teams of faculty and staff to assure division clinics are patient centric and flow without interruptions
Prepare and administer correspondence to patients about clinic visits and related clinical research.
Serve as the point of contact for all patients, faculty, and staff in the Neurology Clinics and communicate their needs to the clinical team.
Communicate with other clinical sites both internally and externally.
Manage communications between clinical teams and the various research programs. Respond to request for information.
Gather medical information from patients and provide information using available resources.
Make decisions and exercise a high level of autonomy while performing responsibilities.
Develop and/or enhance the pre-visit, visit, and post-visit processes.
Manage correspondence.
Access the needs of the patients and interpret how the clinic team can serve them efficiently and effectively to enhance the patient experience.
May provide functional and administrative supervision to undergraduate student assistants.

Supervision: Supervision is received by the Clinical Services Coordinator and the Medical Director(s) of the Neurology Department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 1-year experience working in a customer service field.
Experience in writing/developing correspondence with internal and external entities (e.g., patients, customers, vendors, etc.)
Previous experience which demonstrates proficiency in computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Demonstrated experience working independently with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience with EPIC/EHR.
Experience working in a medical/clinical setting.
Knowledge of clinical scheduling and coordination of patient activities.
Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
Knowledge of billing/compliances.
