Commercial Underwriting Manager

What You’ll Do:

• Define, implement and monitor a client service strategy consistent with the property/casualty companies’ mission of being the ‘Company of Choice’.
• Partner with the Commercial Vice President and Commercial Business Center Directors to support the alignment of Commercial operations within the eight states.
• Oversee all staff development.  

• Lead assigned Commercial Marketing underwriters in determining acceptability, modification and declinations of commercial policies. Ensure the proper premium is collected, and coverage recommendations are accurate.
• Develop positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
• Monitor legislative developments, state laws and regulations. 
• Make appropriate changes to ensure the company is in compliance.  Participate in the design and development of a system to answer complaints from insurance departments and consumers.
• Be a key contact for claims staff by interpreting the intent of commercial coverage and providing legal documentation when needed.

What it takes to join our team:

•  College degree or equivalent plus seven ( ) years of relevant insurance experience, including at least three years of commercial insurance experience required. Underwriting/claims/insurance experience preferred.
• CPCU or CIC designation preferred.
• Must keep current with Commercial and underwriting trends.
• Required skills include customer service, team orientation, interpersonal, and technical/business/industry regulations related skills.
• Must have excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to negotiate and build relationships.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, demanding workload and tight timelines while meeting established guidelines.
• A valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records are required. Overnight travel may be required at times.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment.
• Oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position.
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
