Job Summary
Oversees store operations and directs personnel in preparing, stocking, and/or selling products; promotes and maximizes store sales and Company profits; and hires, trains, evaluates, disciplines, and motivates store personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Carries out management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training and developing partners; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining partners; scheduling, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
- Directs store operations and manages operating expenses to maximize Key Performance Metrics and ensure Company goals and objectives are met.
- Plans long-term strategic objectives aligned with supporting banner strategies, anticipates problems, and revises plans to account for changing circumstances.
- Organizes and allocates duties and resources to meet objectives and ensure work is completed within a specified budget. Generates rules or regulations as necessary.
- Accountable for overall operating costs, sales performance, financial results, public relations, product quality, work methods, working standards, equipment, property, wages, and labor.
- Makes decisions that impact store profits and sales, and employment or welfare of people.
- Reviews and analyzes budget and personnel reports to determine areas of concern, including payroll costs, sales per man hour, and work schedules. Implements appropriate course of action to address identified issues.
- Promotes store sales by establishing and maintaining a pleasant shopping environment for customers. Displays exemplary customer service, acts as a role model for partners, and enforces customer service standards.
- Ensures implementation of merchandising programs and sales development plans to promote store sales.
- Communicates with Category Managers regarding product delivery, service, and impact on store operations.
- Communicates with and assists Asset Protection to ensure shrink guidelines are followed.
- Conducts store inspections and takes appropriate action to ensure store conditions adhere to Company standards.
- Stays up-to-date regarding community activities such as business openings or closures to monitor potential impact on store business.
- Implements, enforces, and complies with BGC Company Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of store operations required.
- Advanced understanding of Company checkout policies and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge and compliance of state laws regarding the sale of alcohol, tobacco, and lottery, as applicable.
- Advanced knowledge of anti-money laundering and other government regulations relating to monetary transactions.
- Advanced knowledge of cash register.
- Advanced knowledge of WFM (Workforce Management).
- Intermediate knowledge of on-site fuel station procedures, if applicable.
- Basic knowledge of SAP for reporting purposes.
- Ability to effectively communicate (in written and verbal form) with customers and partners.
- Ability to remain professional and courteous with customers at all times.
- Ability to lead and motivate others.
- Ability to carry out long-term strategic objectives aligned with Company initiatives.
- Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.

- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to occasionally travel to off-site and out-of-town locations required with possible overnight stays.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Minimum 21 years of age required.
- Associates Degree in related field and four or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certification required.
- TABC/LACT certification required.
- Manager Food Safety certification required.
- AML certification required.
