General Summary:
The Tool and Cutter Grinder grinds and sharpens single and multiple edged machine cutting tools such as end-mills, drills, and related custom tools. This position will also be responsible for inventory control of finished tooling as well as associated supplies for tool grinding operations. In addition, Tool and Cutter Grinder will back-up or fill-in for the Tool Pre-setter involving measurement and setting of tooling off-line to ensure the accuracy of machine tool measurements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Tool and Cutter Grinder:- Selects appropriate machinery and sets up and operates them under general supervision.
- Selects abrasive wheels as needed, sets up and dresses wheels as needed.
- Modify or create tooling for trial production purposes to improve quality of machining operations and/or tool life.
- Determines sharpening requirements and/or determines salvageability of tools.
- Sharpens specialty tools as needed including; complex step drills, special reamers, milling cutters, boring bars, and end-mills.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Tool Presetter:- Operates tool presetting and measuring system (Zoller) to provide inspection of tool geometries, correct preset of tool's nominal lengths and diameters, run-out, concentricity, wear, and condition of inserts.
- Presets tools to specifications and transfers tool data electronically to specified CNC machines.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:- Ability to set up CNC cutter grinder (ANCA).
- Knowledge of tooling holders.
- Ability to assemble a tool build according to print.
- Ability fully inspect tools to a blueprint (use of measuring equipment, optical comparator, and zoller).
- Learn new skills through example and training.
- Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Read and interpret documents, in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Work with mathematical concepts, including basic trigonometry.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Use personal computers to enter or retrieve data.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Prioritize workload to maintain company efficiencies.
