Full-Time Faculty, Graphic Design
We are searching for an experienced Full-Time Faculty, Graphic Design at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor in the Graphic Design and Illustration Department is a renewable non-tenure track, full-time, and benefits-eligible position. Our desired candidate should demonstrate a range of cultural competencies and pedagogical approaches that expand beyond the canon of euro-centric design practices in a manner that affirms the experiences of a diverse student body. The position requires a strong commitment to teaching Graphic Design and Typography courses within our BFA and MFA major programs. The Assistant Professor is responsible for and contributes to teaching and curriculum development of undergraduate and graduate Graphic Design courses, student advising, departmental and college service and committee involvement, and creative professional practice. Areas of knowledge and expertise include graphic design, typography, identity & branding, motion graphics, visual design of apps and interfaces, and creative direction. Must be able to work efficiently, cooperatively, and collaboratively in a team environment. Candidates from underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply. CORE DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Full-Time Faculty are
responsible for effective teaching, ongoing professional achievement, and
service to their home department and the College. Fulfilling this work makes up
100% of their responsibilities.
Specific
responsibilities include:
Teach courses as scheduled and in alignment with the mission and learning outcomes of the Department and College: Hold a full-time studio course contact hour load, consisting of 18 contact hours per week or 9 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester.
— Prepare the
syllabus and any supporting materials associated with teaching the course, and
begin each semester fully prepared for classes. Collaborate with other faculty
in team-taught courses.
— Evaluate and
improve the course content and pedagogy relevant to contemporary approaches and
academic and industry standards. Introducing
and discussing sustainability and diverse topics beyond
Euro-centric approaches and creating an inclusive learning
environment.
— Record
attendance and grading in a timely manner for students and the College’s record
keeping.
— Demonstrate commitment to
student success and a healthy classroom environment.
— Refer students as needed to Student
Affairs and other Campus Life resources.

— Maintain active creative/professional

— Maintain an active professional network.
• Provide up
to 6 hours per week in service time to the Department and/or the
College, as assigned by the Department Chair.
— Participate and

Faculty Senate, Academic Assembly subcommittees, ad-hoc committees, task forces
of various topics.
— Departmental service may
include but is not limited to providing academic advising to departmental
students, attending departmental meetings, organizing visiting artists &
designer series for department, monitoring department lab hours, assisting Chairs
with scheduling courses and assigning physical resources, creating student work
exhibitions for wall displays, supervising classroom assistants, and
representing department at internal and external events and
other duties as assigned.

— Demonstrate

Required Qualifications:
—One or more of the following degrees: BFA, BA, MFA in Graphic Design or related fields. —Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the College level with an expertise in the field of Graphic Design or related field. —Demonstrated ability to develop a successful course relating to the fundamentals of graphic design, visual literacy, and working knowledge of methodologies and production for design studio courses. —Strong ability to work creatively and effectively with a diverse student body as part of a team of professional designers, artists, and educators. PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE: —Graduate degree (MFA, MDes, etc.) —Experience in writing design curriculum, especially for designing identities, product/app design and designing for usability. —Commitment to affirming and understanding the lived experiences of students coming from underrepresented communities as it pertains to art and design educational experiences. —Excellent organization, and time management skills. —Experience working in a design studio, agency, or other team of designers, knowledge of the norms and current practices in the field.
—Substantial knowledge of historic and contemporary artists and designers that expands beyond the euro-centric cannon.
—Sustained record of creative and professional practice in related art and design fields.
—Two years of teaching experience beyond graduate school.
—Computer literacy, working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook), Google Drive, and digital software and online learning management systems (LMS).
—Willingness to teach in other areas of the Graphic Design program including the Graduate Graphic Design program (fall, spring, summer).

Compensation Type: Annual Salary
Salary Range: 72,008.00 - 81,061.00
