Government Sales Manager manages and directs a sales force to achieve sales to government agencies. Designs and recommends sales programs and sets short- and long-term sales strategies. Being a Government Sales Manager evaluates and implements appropriate new sales techniques to increase the department's sales volume. May recommend product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential. Additionally, Government Sales Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Acts as advisor to sales team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to head of a unit/department. The Government Sales Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Government Sales Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • The Opportunity:

    Provide ongoing leadership, coaching, development, support and direction to the Government Representatives. Ensures effective territory management and achievement of assigned sales, profit and expense goals. Manage $100M or more in both state, local and federal government business. Provide ongoing leadership, coaching, development, support and direction to the national government team. Serve as single point of communication liaison between the Commercial Operations Team and Legal Team on government matters. Responsible for creating and implementing successful strategies to further penetrate and segment the market, consisting of state, local and federal government clients.

    MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)

    • Responsible for full sales cycle from planning to execution.
    • Hire, train, and set expectations with all sales and business development associates within direct and indirect reporting lines.
    • Continually evaluate associate progress and performance.
    • Provide formal and informal sales training to all sales associates in assigned area.
    • Develop programs and selling strategies to motivate sales force and stimulate sales.
    • Develop and maintain sound customer and supplier relations.
    • Prepare sales and gross margin forecasts for region territories and analyze and monitor sales data for the region.
    • Monitor and manage key product sales.
    • Successfully interface with internal customers and service providers such as NCO, Furniture division, Avantor Specialists, and Business Process Consultants.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

    • College degree or equivalent experience required
    • Minimum of 5-10 years successful sales experience in the government market
    • Minimum 5 years of government leadership in either a direct or matrix environment
    • Display proficient strategic selling skills including discovery, ROI development and presentation, sales cycle maintenance, tactical planning and closing
    • Clearly demonstrated strengths in persuasion, oral/written communications, analytical skills and sales production.
    • History of building and maintaining strong positive business relationships at all decision levels.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work across functions and at all organization levels.

    ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)

    Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level

    Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternative may be developed to resolve problems.

    A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis. Some overnight travel to sales meetings vendors may be required.

    Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
