Government Sales Manager manages and directs a sales force to achieve sales to government agencies. Designs and recommends sales programs and sets short- and long-term sales strategies. Being a Government Sales Manager evaluates and implements appropriate new sales techniques to increase the department's sales volume. May recommend product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential. Additionally, Government Sales Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Acts as advisor to sales team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to head of a unit/department. Serves as a TVA liaison with Valley-based Congressional staff and the legislative and executive branches of state and local governments. Advances TVA’s strategic objectives with congressional district staffs and state and local officials including Governors and state legislators. Helps develop corporate level policy for effective district, state and local government relations. Works with internal partners to collaborate and help build public support for TVA policies, programs, and initiatives.
Principal Accountabilities
Minimum Requirements:
Education — Bachelor’s degree in political science, business, communications, or related field of study, or equivalent education, training and experience.
Experience — At least five years professional experience in federal, state or local government relations and a strong background or education in state policies and programs. State legislative or executive branch experience is recommended.
Certification/License, etc — None
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Comprehensive knowledge of the legislative and executive branches of state government and the TVA programs and policies. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Strong background or education in state policies and programs. Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to build rapport, negotiate, and persuade. The ability to respond well under pressure and the ability to analyze and assimilate a great deal of information in a short time frame. Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position/access requirements and essential job functions.
