    St. John's Community Health (SJCH), based in Los Angeles and expanding into San Bernardino & Riverside Counties, is seeking an Associate Director of Government Affairs & Community Engagement to play a pivotal role in overseeing Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Community Organizers in the new expansion areas.     Knowledge, & Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree (master's degree in public health, social work, community

    organizing, or a related field. Preferred).

    • Proven experience in management roles with a focus on advocacy, community

    engagement, or related areas.

    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.
    • In-depth knowledge of community health, social determinants of health, and

    healthcare systems.

    • Cultural competence and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, see computer skills below.

     

    Additional Requirements: - Employees are responsible for maintaining individual

    certifications as required by job function or by law and provide verification and

    recertification when requested by management:

    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
    • Ability to be covered by car insurance as required.
    • Ability to drive and travel by car as needed.
    • Flexibility to travel between Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside
    • Counties as needed.
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for community events. 

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Performs a combination, but not necessarily all, of the following duties:

    1. Strategic Leadership:
      1. Assist in developing and implementing a strategic vision for government affairs and community engagement in alignment with SJCH's mission and goals.
      2. Oversee and provide leadership to the Community Health Worker (CHW) and Community Organizer teams in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
    2. Team Supervision and Development:
      1. Supervise, mentor, and guide the CHWs and Community Organizers, ensuring cohesive teamwork and alignment with SJCH's objectives.
      2. Conduct regular team meetings, set performance expectations, and support professional development opportunities.
      3. As an exempt position, be prepared for evening and/or weekend hours as required to ensure the fulfillment of all duties and responsibilities.
    3. Advocacy Planning and Implementation:
      1. Collaborate with the Chief Government Affairs & Community Relations Officer in planning and executing advocacy campaigns specific to San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
      2. Engage with local government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders to advance SJCH's mission.
      3. Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to effectively engage government entities, community stakeholders, and the public.
    4. Community Engagement Oversight:
      1. Oversee community engagement initiatives in the expansion areas, ensuring culturally competent and inclusive approaches.
      2. Facilitate partnerships with local organizations, leaders, and stakeholders to strengthen SJCH's presence in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
    5. Patient and Community Empowerment:
      1. Lead efforts to empower patients and community members through education and engagement initiatives.
      2. Collaborate with the CHW and Community Organizer teams to ensure community members actively participate in decision-making processes.
    6. Data Analysis and Reporting:
      1. Oversee the collection and analysis of data related to community engagement, advocacy efforts, and health outcomes in the expansion areas.
      2. Generate comprehensive reports for internal evaluation and to showcase the impact of community-led initiatives.
    7. Stakeholder Engagement
      1. Serve as a liaison between the community and the Chief Government Affairs and Community Relations Officer (CGACRO) and supports the CGACRO as needed.
      2. Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local healthcare providers, community organizations, and governmental agencies.
      3. Foster open lines of communication to ensure a collaborative and supportive environment.
      4. Attend government, community, and private interest group meetings to stay informed about key community issues.
      5. Produce briefing memos before community meetings, and detailed reports after community meetings describing the discussions and key issues raised in various community forums.
      6. Maintain awareness of community affairs and issues, reporting to the CGACRO as needed.
      7. Coordinate office procedures, ensuring efficiency in routine tasks and correspondence.
    8. Resource Allocation:
      1. Work collaboratively with organizational leadership to allocate resources effectively, ensuring the success and sustainability of advocacy and community engagement programs in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
    9. Cross-Team Collaboration:
      1. Facilitate collaboration between the teams in Los Angeles and the expansion areas to maximize the impact of community-driven initiatives.
      2. Foster a culture of teamwork and shared goals across all areas of responsibility.
    10. Other Duties:
      1. Complete additional duties as needed or as assigned by the Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement.
