    What we are looking for:


    Yazaki is looking for a Government Affairs Expert to join our Corporate Planning, Communications & Strategy team in Canton, MI. This position can also be remote from Washington D.C., Plano, TX, or Monterrey, Mexico. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative and action-driven environment making lasting impacts on the organization.


    The Government Affairs Expert is responsible for developing and executing a strategic engagement plan designed to protect and promote company interests while providing legislative and regulatory trend analysis to inform company business and product planning. They will collaborate with executives, legal teams, public affairs, communications, and subject matter experts to align government relations efforts with the organization’s overall strategy.


    What you will be doing:


    • Serves as the primary interpreter of political trends and communicate their assessed impact on the company
    • Drafts company positions and talking points in response to proposals that could impact company success
    • Develops the organization’s government engagement policies, practices, and objectives, involving local, state, and federal government officials and offices
    • Joins trade associations and industry committees and seeks leadership roles
    • Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the department and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure
    • Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve goals
    • Engages in direct lobbying to promote company positions on U.S. policy
    • Collaborates with other functional groups to promote company solutions to customer pain points
    • Protect/promote Yazaki brand, image, and reputation by maintaining business continuity
    • Engage BU VP in high-level meetings when needed and increase meeting frequency/plant visits
    • Collaborates with industry advocates to build areas of common interest
    • Gathering, analyzing, and positioning the enterprise to secure applicable incentives
    • Will be part of the broader Strategic engagement team to collaborate with Mexico and CA counterparts
    • Perform all other projects/duties as assigned
    • Has strong understanding of Japanese working culture
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
    • Expertise in communication, leadership, and teamwork

    What you will bring to the table:


    • Bachelor’s Degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent experience
    • 10 years in a similar role
    • Demonstrated track record of bi-partisan success
    • Direct experience working on advocacy for policy and appropriations
    • Strong network and reputation on Capitol Hill and federal government
    • Experience in Governmental activities (including but not limited to an Executive branch agency or Legislative staff office) a plus
    • Current or former registration as a lobbyist at the federal level a plus
    • Knowledgeable in legislative and regulatory process, successful political influence techniques, corporate public affairs strategies, direct management of federal political action committees
    • Business fluency in oral and written English. Spanish and/or Japanese fluency preferred
    • 10-15% travel required (domestic and international)
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, SAP
    • Process oriented, ability to meet deadlines, excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to think critically
