    Job Overview:
    The Government Relations Manager (GRM) provides leadership, direction, management and administration of the Chamber’s governments relations activities and programs. The GRM develops strategic direction and provides recommendations on public policy matters primarily involving local and state governments and will provide direction on federal government issues on an as needed basis. A major goal within the Government Relations program is to increase awareness, education, and engagement within our Chamber Membership on local and state issues, policies, and decisions that could impact businesses. They will develop and maintain strong and respectful relationships with key external stakeholders, including but not limited to, elected officials, public administrators, community leaders, business leaders, etc. The GRM will be a visible ambassador of the Chamber, but also must use fundamental project management and understanding of economic development programs and tools to execute organizational initiatives that will impact our local businesses and community.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Strategically build a comprehensive Government Relations program that connects Chamber Member Businesses to local and state governments
    • Build and contribute to a robust and engaging Government Relations communications plan that will enhance Chamber Members’ awareness and knowledge around local and state topics impacting businesses
    • Organize and manage all Government Relations events such as the Monthly Forums and Oktoberfest in the Capitol
    • Prepare an Annual Legislative Agenda and Positions Paper
    • Maintain and increase positive relationships with government entities, elected officials, public administrators, business leaders, and other stakeholders
    • Work in partnership with CEO to build program budgets, new government relations events, etc.
    • Represent the Chamber on community boards, trade associations, and committees in alignment with the mission and strategic priorities of the Chamber
    • Serve as a collaborative and respectful partner and consultant as needed on matters involving public relations and government relations topics

    Education & Experience:

    • Associates Degree or Undergraduate degree in public administration, political science, or related field; Will consider experience in lieu of degree
    • 3 years of government, public relations, economic development, government affairs, or political policy experience
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively cultivate relationships with key stakeholders
    • Exceptional written communications skills to increase engagement and awareness of local, state, and federal issues impacting businesses
    • Excellent computer skills including Excel, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and ability to learn the Chamber’s operating system called GrowthZone

    Work Environment:

    The La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce is currently in a Hybrid work model where 2-3 days per week are in office. Chamber events are in-person, and therefore will require in-person management and attendance at events. Much of this role will be between day-time working hours from 8AM-5PM, but occasional work in the evenings will be required. As a salaried employee, we allow for flexible working hours as needed.
