Monitors and analyses proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends and prepare reports and informational documents to inform and support business leaders. Additionally, Government Affairs Representative requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The mission of the Government Affairs Specialist is to enhance and promote public power in North Carolina by developing and managing member political engagement and support ElectriCities strategic government advocacy efforts.
The Government Affairs Specialist is responsible for building and deploying an active member political education and engagement program to enhance ElectriCities’ advocacy at the state and federal level. In coordination with the Senior Government Affairs Specialist, the Government Affairs specialist will advocate on behalf of ElectriCities with state and federal legislatures and regulators and maintain positive relationships with elected officials, policymakers, and stakeholders.
Physical Requirements
The Government Affairs Specialist must maintain the physical condition necessary to perform tasks in an office setting such as operating a personal computer, keyboard, and other peripheral equipment. Periodic travel within the state of North Carolina and within the U.S. may also be required for training and development purposes.
Controls
The Government Affairs Specialist works under the general supervision and guidance of the Chief Legal and External Affairs Officer, who reviews the employee’s work performance under ElectriCities guidelines in terms of overall effectiveness and provides professional guidance as needed. Time sheets, vacation time, sick leave, etc., will be reviewed and approved by the Chief Legal and External Affairs Officer. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
