GENERAL DEFINITION:
This is building cleaning and maintenance work at the full performance level. A position in this class cleans assigned offices, lavatories, work rooms and public areas with detergents, waxes and similar chemicals and light equipment. A position in this class is differentiated from those in related classes by the routine nature of the duties performed and the nature of the spaces assigned. This position reports directly to a technical supervisor who is available and inspects all work.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and buffs floors with hand-pushed and/or automatic brooms, waxers, and polishers; vacuums carpets, upholstered chairs and draperies with vacuum cleaners; washes windows; dusts woodwork, furniture, counters, bookshelves and similar furnishings; polishes furniture.
Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes restrooms; unstops toilets; replenishes paper and other supplies; clears and wipes down tables and serving counters in eating areas.
Empties waste cans and ash trays; replaces light bulbs; cleans and polishes brass and other finishes.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, supplies and equipment.
Ability to learn the specific uses of assigned equipment and cleaning products. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Ability to read directions, instructions and safety precautions pertaining to cleaning products and equipment.
Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operators license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
