Government Affairs Director implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Director performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Director creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Government Support Specialist

  • The Government Support Specialist is responsible for providing administrative support to the Government Affairs Manager, Tribal Administrator, and Elected officials. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in administrative roles, preferably within a government or executive setting, demonstrating discretion, professionalism, and the ability to handle confidential information. This individual should possess the ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment while also maintaining the ability to achieve accurate and highly competent results. This role entails traveling alongside tribal administration and elected officials as needed and occasionally on short notice.

    The Government Support Specialist reports to the Government Affairs Manager and is subject to the CIN Personnel Policies and Procedures.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide record management assistance including organizing digital systems and hard copies as needed for Administration, Legal, and governmental records.
    • Schedule meetings: coordinate invites, meeting agendas, ensure rooms are prepped, coordinate necessary technology and presentations, order refreshments as required and greet guests for all meetings and trainings.
    • Regularly review Nation’s website to ensure it is updated and work with appropriate staff to adjust as needed.
    • Schedule travel for Administration, Governmental Affairs, and Elected officials this includes.
    • Maintain receipts for travel and purchase cards assigned to government and reconcile with purchasing monthly,
    • Provide regular administrative duties for the team including but not limited to typing, filing, copying, scanning, binding.
    • Regularly update organization wide contact lists and distribute appropriately.
    • Order and distribute supplies needed for tribal buildings and vehicles.
    • Proactively coordinate with building maintenance when issues need to be addressed within the buildings.
    • Help coordinate staff events.
    • Provide back-up to Governmental Affairs Manager for Executive Committee agendas and minutes.
    • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned.
    • Regular travel is expected; occasionally on short notice.

    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with people at all levels of government and the public.

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in dealing with sensitive information.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in a professional or administrative environment.
    • Strong working knowledge and skillset with Microsoft Office Suite, copier/printer/fax/scanner, phone, internet, and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.)
    • Valid State Driver’s License and willingness to travel as needed.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Knowledge of Tribal Government Operations
    • Type 45 Words Per Minute
    • Basic knowledge of Computer & IT Skills; Human Resources

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend so as to open/use lower drawers or cabinetry; to talk, hear, and see. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
