Government Affairs Director implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Director performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Director creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Government Affairs Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the Leadership of the Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic, Bishop of Cleveland, it is the twenty-third largest diocese in the United States. The Diocese encompasses the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Wayne and Ashland. There are just under 700,000 Catholics in the Diocese, and Catholic Charities-Diocese of Cleveland is one of the largest diocesan systems of social services in the world. With 106 Catholic schools serving over 38,000 students it is the sixth largest Catholic school system in the nation. There are 185 parishes, 1 pastoral center and 1 mission office within the Diocese.

    The diocesan Office of Catholic Education (OCE) leads and assists those who carry out the education ministries of the Diocese of Cleveland by providing educational guidance and resources, leadership training, and the support necessary for schools to deliver irresistibly Catholic, academically excellent education that is operationally sound.

    The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland is seeking passionate, committed, experienced candidates for the position of Director of Government Programs for the Diocese of Cleveland.

    Housed in the Secretariat for Catholic Education, the Director of Government Programs is a member of the OCE’s leadership team and will report to the Associate Superintendent for Elementary Schools.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide answers/solutions/data for Auxiliary Services inquiries.
    • Provide answers/solutions for Mandated Services inquiries.
    • Have strong knowledge of the Cleveland, EdChoice, and JP scholarships.
    • Oversee Title and IDEAb funding.
    • Oversee district bus transportation issues.
    • Share available safety grants through Ed Connection.
    • Assign OEDS role assignments in the Department of Education and Workforce website.
    • Facilitate distribution of the federal emergency funding (EANS) with the Educational Service Centers.
    • Share CAPE (Council for Private Education) updates.
    • Work closely with CMSD (Cleveland Municipal School District) staff and funding issues.
    • Monitor legislative updates throughout the year.
    • Monitor Ohio Education Updates as to what may impact our schools.
    • Facilitate school safety compliance in all schools.

    Qualifications:

    • Evidence of a strong commitment to the values, mission, ministry, and evangelization commission of the Catholic Church. Must be a practicing Catholic with demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic Church, Catholic education, and Catholic teachings and traditions.
    • Preferred advanced degree in education administration, education leadership, or equivalent.
    • Catholic school educational administration experience, preferably as a Catholic elementary principal and/or in diocesan or central administration.
    • An understanding of Ohio Catholic School finances, specifically federal and state dollars.
    • Discernment in applying discretion and approximate security measures in the handling of sensitive, confidential and critical information.
    • Experience in urban school environments, especially urban Catholic school environments.
