Golf Superintendent is responsible for overall maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure quality playing conditions. Oversees continued development of golf course during golf season to improve playing conditions and maintenance of course during off-season. Being a Golf Superintendent manage purchasing, replenishment, and inventory of all materials, supplies, and equipment used to maintain golf course. Liaises with the Head Golf Professional on any issues related to golf course operations and maintenance. Additionally, Golf Superintendent typically requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a golf course general manager. The Golf Superintendent manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Golf Superintendent typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     NATURE OF WORK
    This is a supervisory position responsible for construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of navigation facilities at the Tenn-Tom Waterway Project. Responsibilities also include personnel, planning, equipment, scheduling, and other items necessary to keep the project facilities operational.
     
    The Superintendent organizes, directs, plans, and coordinates groups of skilled, and semi-skilled employees involved in facility maintenance and construction. Such items include locks, spillways, buildings, structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, utilities, security systems, sewage disposal systems, and other operational systems.

    The Superintendent’s work is done with considerable independence and under the general direction of the Project Manager. The work is reviewed through the observation of results obtained, inspections, and periodic reports and evaluations by the Quality Control Section and the Project Manager.
     
    The Superintendent may act in the capacity of Project Manager in the Manager’s absence.

     Illustrative Tasks:
    • Supervises, assigns, coordinates, and directs the work of skilled and semi-skilled employees engaged in the maintenance, repair, and construction of project facilities including locks & dams.
    • Reviews plans for system repairs and construction.
    • Responsible for coordinating multiple work areas.
    • Responsible for maintaining safe work performance and conveying safe work procedures to employees under supervision. Enforces provisions of EM 385-1-1.
    • Maintains neat, complete and accessible records following established procedures.
    • Maintains business contacts with suppliers and subcontractors.
    • Determines and orders or requisitions materials and equipment to facilitate repairs.
    • Writes performance evaluations; handles employee complaints and grievances.
    • Responsible for ensuring safety procedures are followed.
    • Makes recommendations on hiring and termination of employees.
    • Performs related work as assigned or required.
    • Keeps the Project Manager informed on project status.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions pertaining to work operations.
    • Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of project facilities. 
    • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of personnel.
    • Knowledge of human resource management.
    • Knowledge of basic office computer software.
    • Thorough knowledge of EM 385-1-1 Safety Manual.
    • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple simple to complex maintenance procedures.
    • Ability to make detailed technical inspections.
    • Ability to diagnose, locate and correct problems.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with employees, and superiors.
    • Ability to read and interpret a variety of blueprints, schematics, drawings, plans and specifications.
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must have seven (7) years progressively responsible management level experience in industrial maintenance, maintenance of locks, spillways, & dams, or related fields.
    • Familiarity with EM 385-1-1, safety programs, applicable OSHA regulations, and the ability to interpret the various sections applicable to work requirements of the contract.
    • Experience in supervising employees involved in a project for a government agency, preferably the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
    • High School Diploma and applicable technical or administrative training.
    • At least five (5) years of experience supervising personnel.
