Job Summary

Assist in the day-to-day maintenance operations of Mountain Greens Golf Course and Woodstone Meadows Golf Course. Work with the Superintendent and staff to provide exceptional course conditions and customer service on both golf courses of Massanutten Resort. Promote a safety-first culture through training and education of employees. High school diploma (or equivalent) is required, college degree preferred, as is extensive experience in a turfgrass related field. Must have a valid commercial pesticide applicator permit for ornamental and turf pest control issued by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (or be able to get it within 6 months of hire). Physical requirements such as stooping, bending, and lifting an average weight of 30 pounds are also needed.

Core Responsibilities

• Assist Golf Superintendent in running daily turfgrass maintenance operations including budgeting for payroll, maintenance equipment, and supplies associated with golf course maintenance
• Assist with agronomical maintenance practices for turfgrass including seeding, sodding, aerifying, watering, mowing, and spraying
• Supervise and participate in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
• Identify diseases and insects of turfgrass, learn the tools, materials, and equipment used in turfgrass maintenance and keep accurate records including MSDS reports
• Recruit, supervise and retain golf maintenance staff
• Oversee employee performance including annual evaluations and exercising disciplinary action as needed
• Provide technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions
• Oversee subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment
• Assist Golf Superintendent in planning and budgeting for additional or replacement capital equipment
• Assist Golf Superintendent in annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects
• Maintain records and completes required reporting; order parts, supplies and equipment as needed
• Schedule maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members
• Maintain certifications and licensing involving turfgrass management; attend seminars and/or short courses to stay abreast of current standards
• Responsible for golf maintenance operation in absence of Golf Superintendent
• Other duties as assigned by management
