Golf Superintendent - Assistant jobs in Idaho

A golf course assistant superintendent is responsible for supervising all the outdoor employees and outdoor operations of the golf course. The Assistant Superintendent is mainly responsible for the landscaping and maintenance of the grounds.  The Assistant Superintendent assumes responsibility for managing, maintaining, and completion of daily tasks of the golf course property under the supervision and instruction of the General Manager.

Role: The assistant superintendent’s role is to manage the employees on the course; he or she may even be responsible for hiring them. The assistant superintendent sets the employee schedules, assigns jobs, and is responsible for organizing the mowing, fertilization, and watering schedules of the entire course.

Duties: Include, but are not limited to:

• Overseeing the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on the grounds, with input from consultant
• Develop weekly plan with management to ensure schedule for mowing, fertilizing, watering, course maintenance, range area, etc.
• Direct and assist the staff on the planting, replacing, spraying, and pruning of trees and shrubs.
• Adhere to a detailed plan for the property that provides the facility with a consistent, aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.
• Manage all water and irrigation systems, aid in the repair and maintenance of necessary equipment.
• Recruit, supervise, and retain maintenance staff, with help from management.
• Oversee employees in safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.
• Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed, with permission of management.
• Schedule maintenance practices around daily play, tournaments, and events to the best of their ability, to help minimize disruption to customers.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of agronomy, turf grass science and the rules of golf
• A thorough knowledge of the different methods and materials used in golf courses, ground and landscape areas or construction/maintenance work.
• Certified to spray fertilizer preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Thorough knowledge of watering practices and irrigation.
• Knowledge of wells, pumps, and automatic irrigation control equipment.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to:

• Walk, sit, stand, squat, and crawl in a lying position.
• Lift in excess of 50lbs.
• Sit and operate equipment in rough and finished terrain for long periods of time.
• Utilize hands and wrists with high dexterity to use all common hands and power tools.
• Ability to work in natural elements, outdoors always.
