Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. (GTA) is seeking college students for GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN internships. Students with an interest in the construction and/or geotechnical engineering fields are desired. Interns in this position will be provided training, and work under experienced engineering professionals.

This is a full-time internship, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Hourly rate depends on office location and results of candidate interview. Overtime is paid at time and a half for all hours worked over 40 hours in one week.

Some of the daily responsibilities you will be trained to do are as follows:

• Perform field tests on soils and other materials at the construction site or in one of our laboratories. Field testing commonly involves testing the moisture and density of soils using a nuclear density testing gauge.
• Observe and document construction activities to assure compliance with technical specifications. Prepare daily field reports and test summaries documenting the work.
• Work closely with geotechnical and construction engineers to services clients, perform engineering analysis, and learn what is takes to succeed as an engineering consultant.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

• College student pursuing degree in engineering, geology, or a related field
• Own reliable transportation, valid driver’s license; satisfactory driving record. You will drive to the project sites every day in your own vehicle (we reimburse you for mileage/tolls)
• Must have steel-toe or composite-toe boots

Note: Most of your day will be spent outdoors. Be prepared to work in a variety of weather conditions. This position may require standing for extended durations as well as repetitive motions such as lifting or hammering. You must have the ability to use your hands to handle, finger or feel; reach, climb or balance; crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit, smell and see (including close, distance and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus). You must be physically capable of lifting 60 pounds regularly; and occasionally move 80 pounds or more (such as a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete or soil samples).
