Geologist researches the formation, dissolution, and content of rock layers. Researches the effects of internal pressures, heat, water, pollution, and erosion. Being a Geologist studies variations in rock formations and densities to identify new mineral deposits. Estimates depth, quality and vastness of deposits. Additionally, Geologist tests mineral quality and purity to determine feasibility of mining. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     Position Description: Geologist
    **Work Location: Atlanta, GA **

    Salary: Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview

    Responsibilities
    • Projects will include groundwater, surface water, soil, and air sampling; environmental site assessments; regulatory permitting; subsurface site characterizations involving drilling, soil classification, and bedrock mapping; and hazardous waste site characterization and remediation
    • Collect, extract, identify, and compile environmental data from soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys
    • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, trench and boring, laboratory documentation, written procedures, monitoring systems, and logbooks
    • Understand various regulatory environments and associated technical requirements
    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
    • Assisting in obtaining permits and approvals for projects
    • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
    • Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities
    • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
    Required Skills/Abilities:
    • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
    • Knowledge of business office procedures.
    • Attention to detail and documentation.
    • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, employees and the public.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external partners including clients, sub consultants, and utility companies
    • Must be well organized and detail-oriented.
    • Excellent time and project management skills
    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, similar earth science
    • Entry Level position- Less than 3 years of experience with geology or environmental science knowledge
    • Previous internship experience with a civil engineering design firm
    • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external partners including clients, sub consultants, and utility companies
