    Position Summary

    Provide support for the mining and exploration activities for all AMI operations. Oversee the coordination of the activities of mining, drilling, sampling, testing of crude clay. Interpret core data, develop and report mine plans, and calculate strategic reserves.

    Essential Functions 

    • Develop and maintain a documented exploration program to acquire an approved attapulgite 20-year reserve base with continual maintenance of a 20-year supply of crude attapulgite.
    • Submit an annual exploration and reclamation budget with a continually maintained accurate cash flow of relevant expenditures.
    • Work with attapulgite Operations Manager and Plant Accountant to help plan the annual mining budget for the relevant division.
    • Represent the company in negotiating and acquiring real property and minerals leases. Work with company’s general counsel in documenting such acquisitions.
    • Monitor and maintain in good status, mineral leases and owned real property.
    • Maintain a close, informative relationship with all AMI lessors to ensure growth and maintenance of 20-year reserve supply; be the primary communication conduit between AMI and primary lessors.
    • Develop and maintain a documented 20-year mining projection with one-, two-, and five-year detailed mine plans based on agreed-upon crude clay quality and considerations.
    • Participate in monthly meetings at the Macon Corporate Annex office to report on progress and discuss new developments for the 20-year mining and exploration program; submit a monthly report regarding progress, setbacks, and/or new developments to the program.
    • Develop and obtain mining permits.  Complete all regulation and compliance reporting.
    • Learn and assist in GIS mapping system applications and data control.
    • Follow and adhere to all QMS procedures and documentation as applicable to the position and department, and as required by ISO.
    • All other duties as assigned. 
    Job Requirements and Skill Sets 
    1. Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field.
    2. Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience.
    3. Proficiency with project management tools and software packages (i.e. Microsoft Office programs).
    4. Have or acquire a PG (Professional Geologist) license from an ASBOG (National Association of State Boards of Geology) certified state.
    5. Ability to operate well in fast-paced, collaborative environment.
    6. Possess operational, technical marketing, organizational and management skills.
    7. Must be a good communicator, both written and verbal.
    8. Possess leadership qualities and excellent problem-solving ability.
    9. Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams. Consistent & direct involvement with inter-disciplinary teams.

    Working Conditions/Environment 

    Work is performed primarily in an office environment, with some work being performed in a production environment.  Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop and climb up to 70 feet.  Able to lift, pull, push and carry up to 55 lbs.  Manual dexterity required for operation of a computer keyboard.  Vision and a sense of hearing are also required. 30% domestic travel to the mine sites and for training purposes is required.   Respirator Fit Test is required at hire; no facial hair can interfere with the seal of the respirator at pre-hire and annual fit test screening.
