    Job Description:

    Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Project or Senior Geologist (5 years of experience, 8 years preferred) in our Greensboro, NC office. Remote applicants will be considered. We are looking for a motivated candidate to join our team of more than six engineering geologists to support our efforts on interesting and challenging dam, tunnel, and geohazard projects across the United States. This position will consist of management of advanced geotechnical investigations with a focus on both existing and proposed dam, hydropower, and pumped-storage hydropower projects.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Plan and manage detailed and technically advanced geotechnical investigations
    • Support the Creation of Drilling Program Plans (DPPs)
    • Manage activities of other field personnel
    • QA/QC boring logs and material classifications
    • Occasionally log test borings
    • Prepare boring logs and drawings using OpenGround software
    • Assign, perform, and review laboratory tests
    • Perform calculations to support designs
    • Provide support on preparation of reports and proposals
    • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) of engineering geology for potential failure mode analyses, risk analyses, and design and construction projects

    Required Skills/Experience:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Geology, or related Science
    • 5 or more years of professional experience (8 years preferred)
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to multi-task 
    • Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
    • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last a few weeks away from the office 
    • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside

    Desired Skills/Experience:

    • Prior professional work in a related field
    • Master’s Degree in related field preferred
    • OpenGround, CADD, and/or GIS experience preferred
    • PG and/or CEG Licensure preferred

    • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
