Entry-Level Geologist or Environmental Scientist

  • What we are looking for

    SCS Engineers is looking for an Entry-Level Geologist to learn and grow from our experienced professionals. Our goal is to train an ambitious, smart, and personable geologist to work with our clients and find solutions to their environmental needs. You will have the opportunity to develop into a project and client manager, become an expert in technical facets of the geology field, and experience diverse work opportunities with other SCS engineers and scientists.

    You will join our environmental services and solid waste teams in our Little Rock, Arkansas location. This position includes opportunities for technical report writing, geologic and environmental site investigations and site summary reporting, non-routine monitoring and sampling, field construction oversight, and project management. If you are self-motivated, have a high attention to detail, and have the desire to develop professionally then this position could be for you. Your responsibilities will be primarily performed in the office along with fieldwork assignments.

    How you can make an impact

    • Preparing technical reports, including tabulated data, charts, graphs, statistical analysis, and figures, using good time management.

    • Preparing investigation work plans, overseeing fieldwork and subcontractors, assessing site conditions, preparing investigation reports, and occasionally participating in public meetings.

    • Preparing proposals and project budgets and participating in business development activities.

    • Managing small to mid-scale projects and providing support on larger projects.

    • Performing routine and non-routine field activities including sample collection, construction oversight, and aquifer testing.

    • Completing field and office assignments in a quality and safe manner.

    • Pursuing technical improvement for self and company.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology required.

    • 3 months of relevant environmental experience/internship required.

    • Experience with environmental monitoring and field equipment preferred.

    • Completion of 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training preferred, or willingness to complete this training upon employment required.

    • Ability to perform fieldwork including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods required.

    • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required.

    The pay range for this position is $48,000 to $52,000/year depending on experience with additional bonuses and our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
