Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice.   • The Medical Genetics Program at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is seeking a Section Chief candidate who is a board eligible/board certified Medical Geneticist physician to join our growing program.  The program offers an exciting opportunity for the physician to play an important role in the continued growth with this leadership role.

    This provider will be responsible, along with a multi-disciplinary team, for care of pediatric and adult patients with known or suspected complex genetic disorders and inherited conditions.  The physician will be quality and safety driven in their care of the acute inpatient and outpatient population.

    Practice Description:
    The physicians and APP’s are members of The Corewell Health Medical Group, a growing, physician-led, multispecialty practice.  The practice includes a team of highly specialized physicians (7) and nurse practitioners (1), dietitians, genetic counselors (21), genetic counseling assistants (3), nurses, medical assistants, and other support staff. The group is dedicated to supporting the mission of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital including education, clinical services, research and other scholarly activity, and advocacy.

    Facility Description:
    HDVCH is proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024. This is a state-of-the-art, globally integrated, 234-bed free standing dedicated children’s hospital located on the main campus of Corewell Health - West.  Annually, there are 8760 inpatient and 124,600 ambulatory visits, as well as over 55,185 children seen in the Pediatric Emergency Department (Level 1 Trauma rated).  HDVCH also has one of the nation’s largest NICU’s (108-beds)

    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
