Genetics Counselor jobs in Winston Salem, NC
Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. Genetics Counselor's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to monitor student progress and address any concerns
- Support students in developing problem-solving, decision-making, and coping skills
- Facilitate workshops and presentations on topics such as bullying prevention, stress management, and conflict resolution
- Advocate for students by attending team meetings, IEP meetings, and collaborating with external stakeholders
- Assist in crisis intervention and manage mental health emergencies within the school community
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records
- Stay updated on current trends in school counseling and participate in professional development opportunities
