Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. The role of our School Counselor is to provide guidance and support services to the students, the families, and our school personnel. The primary goal is to enrich student development in academic, personal/social, spiritual, and behavioral domains. The School Counselor is available to meet individually with students or in small groups to address issues such but not limited to: bullying, self-esteem, depression, family concerns, grief and loss, behavior, friendships, anger management, etc. The School Counselor is a resource to meet the needs of the students & families, staff, and the community in which we serve.
