Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Job Summary/Basic Functions
About the Position:
The Department of Biology is seeking a highly qualified Assistant / Associate Professor of Genetics. The new specialized faculty member will join the program in August of 2024. This is a nine (9) month tenure-track position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have teaching experience and research/postdoctoral background in genetics.
They will be expected to teach introductory genetics lectures, and laboratories and develop upper division and/or graduate courses tailored to the candidate's specific area of expertise.
The standard teaching load is 12 semester hours per semester.
In addition, providing student advisement; participating in scholarly research; serving on departmental, school, and university committees is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Entry:
Teaching experience is required.
Both a commitment to undergraduate teaching and developing a research program involving undergraduate and M.S. graduate students in research is required.
The successful applicant will have the potential to or demonstrated ability to establish an externally funded research program in their area of expertise that will include undergraduate and M.S. graduate students.
Ph.D. in Genetics or related field required by the start of employment.
