Genetics Counselor jobs in Norfolk, VA
Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. Genetics Counselor's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

SITE OF SERVICE:
- The work to be performed under this contract is in support of NMCP and associated Branch Medical Clinics and Tricare Prime Clinics.
- Full-Time
POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree: Master’s Degree.
- Education: Graduate from a program in genetics counseling as determined by the Accreditation Council for Genetics Counseling.
- Certification: Possess and maintain certification as a genetics counselor through the American Board of Genetic counseling (ABGC).
- Experience: Possess experience as a genetic counselor of at least one (1) year within the preceding three (3) years.
- U.S. Citizenship: Health Care Workers performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.
- English Language Requirement: The Contractor shall ensure that all HCWs providing services under this contract are able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.
- HCW Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required.
HOURS:
- Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0700 and 1700 hours.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLSMust be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team-work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
