Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice.     195-DAY CONTRACT/FULL-TIME TENURE TRACK

    This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position with a 195 day contract. This position is a part categorically funded and part District funded full-time faculty position. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, the Counselor will provide direct academic, career, and personal counseling services to students. The Counselor works with a minimum of supervision to perform the counseling functions.

    The College is seeking applications from two individuals who have the desired characteristics and skills necessary to provide exemplary service to students.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provide academic, career, and personal counseling services to students district-wide
    • Interpret assessment scores and implement course placement processes using multiple measures
    • Prepare and update educational plans
    • In response to data, assist in development of specialized programs, services and curriculum
    • Assist with the development and implementation of the college’s Student Equity and Achievement (SEA), Guided Pathways, and other student success efforts
    • Prepare and maintain academic advising materials
    • Coordinate and/or provide career services for students
    • Assist as needed with articulation, student outreach, and recruitment activities
    • Teach guidance and college success courses as assigned
    • Develop and present career and/or college success related workshops
    • Classroom Duties: Provide instruction that may include lecture and laboratory classes in the discipline in accordance with established COS approved curriculum and course outlines? inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance and participation requirements in a course syllabus? effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds.
    • Interaction with students out of class: Advise students on academic and career matters? assist in outreach and articulation with high schools, four-year colleges and universities? post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
    • Other Duties: Professional and curriculum development- Remain current in field and curriculum and instructional methods? develop, maintain and evaluate curriculum including development and assessment of student learning outcomes? select textbooks? evaluate course materials? interact with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction and participate in the development of instructional methods, technology and materials? work with peers in higher education, and where appropriate, business and industry to maintain currency of instructional programs.
    • Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines? prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus.
    • Interaction with Colleagues: Participate in college governance by serving on college committees? participate in professional development, including flex obligations? assist with student and other educational activities in accordance with college policies? establish and maintain effective work relationships.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy,
    • OR marriage, family and child counseling,
    • OR the equivalent. (NOTE: A Bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.) https://www.siskiyous.edu/committees/equivalency/
    Desired Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of, and familiarity with, curriculum offerings, enrollment trends, requirements for Associate degrees and Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT), and general education patterns in secondary and postsecondary education.
    • Demonstrated understanding of Student Equity and Achievement (SEA), Guided Pathways, and other student support services such as EOPS, CalWORKS, CARE, DSPS, etc...
    • Experience in working with Veterans and students receiving Veterans benefits.
    • Knowledge of or experience with international students and requirements of their enrollment.
    • Knowledge and experience with NCAA transfer requirements and working with student athletes transferring from a California community college to another college/university.
    • Meet minimum qualifications to provide counseling for EOPS (Title 5, Section 56264) and/or DSPS (Title 5, Section 53414).

    • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
    • Ability to develop and implement specialized counseling programs and services for low-income and disproportionately impacted students.
    • Knowledge of vocational fields and career trends.
    Salary & Benefits:
    • The annual salary range for a 195 day contract is: $71,365—$96,238. Starting placement on the District salary schedule is based upon years of experience and number units completed beyond the Master’s degree. New academic employees may receive credit for no more than 5 years of job related experience. Starting salary range is: $71,365 – $96,238.
    • Faculty members with an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution receive an additional $2,000 annual stipend.
    • The District offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage to employees and qualified dependents.
    • In addition, the District provides vacation, sick leave and paid holidays. The employee participates in the CalSTRS through District and employee.
    Selection Process
    After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. At the discretion of the
    District, videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) may be offered. Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who
    most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. The Search Committee will
    recommend a slate of finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.

    The District reserves the right to re-advertise the position or to delay indefinitely filling of the position if it is deemed that applicants for the position do not
    constitute an adequate applicant pool or if funding is not available.

    Conditions of Employment
    Employees must satisfy all the pre-employment requirements prior to appointment that include, but are not limited to, tuberculosis clearance (EC 87408.6),
