Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. Job Summary:
Provide assessment and counseling treatment for clients in an outpatient behavioral health setting. Conduct self in a professional manner, maintain confidentiality, and continue to develop professional skills. Workday will be flexible and scheduled to meet the needs of the clients. Provide other EAP services as needed.
Education & License Requirements:
Earned master’s degree or doctorate in social work, psychology, counseling, or human services area required. LCSW, LPA, LPC, LMFT, or Psychologist licensure in the State of Oregon is required. Ability to be certified as a Qualified Mental Health Professional.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
Clinical counseling and excellent communication skills required. Must have the ability to work as an effective team member, as well as independently, and seek consultation when needed. Experience facilitating groups and delivering presentations is desired.
