The General Maintenance Worker focuses on general building upkeep, fixing and maintaining mechanical equipment and machines. Daily tasks can include but are not limited to preventative maintenance and completing maintenance tickets from Spiceworks. The Spiceworks maintenance tickets include furniture moving, plumbing work, painting, flooring repair and upkeep, electrical repairs, and during COVID general cleaning/disinfecting of affected rooms.
Duties and Responsibilities
Relationship Building:
Create a positive relationship with colleagues on the Facilities Team
Develop a positive relationship with general staff
Functional Duties:
Answer all walkie calls for maintenance and custodial requests
Paint areas in the building when needed
Conduct routine inspections of premises and equipment throughout the building to ensure that the school is tidy and functional
Perform preventative maintenance
Complete regular maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs
Assist in ground maintenance during bad weather, such as spreading salt, shoveling snow, etc.
Install necessary equipment as needed
Handle basic repairs and maintenance
Oversee contractors (in partnership with Facilities Manager) when professional repairs are necessary
Inspect and troubleshoot various equipment and systems
Repairing machines, equipment, or structures as necessary
Collaborate with Facilities Team during renovations or facilities improvements
Work closely with Facilities Porter
Meet weekly with Facilities Manager to check in on any issues, challenges, or support needed
Follow the Faculties Department calendar

Knowledge Qualifications
Proven maintenance experience including knowledge of carpentry, electrical repairs and plumbing repairs
Skilled in the use of hand and power tools
Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts
Ability to check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary
Ability to use standard tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches
Experience with precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices
Experience performing routine maintenance
Ability to patch drywall holes in walls
Experience in painting
Possess creativity and problem-solving skills

Three years of proven maintenance experience or a similar position

Annual Performance Review
The General Maintenance Worker will schedule his/her formal annual review meeting two weeks before his/her performance review in June.
The General Maintenance Worker will complete a draft personal evaluation during the formal review two weeks before his/her performance review in June.
The General Maintenance Worker review will be conducted in June of each year by the Facilities Manager.
