    Position Purpose:  Maintain high levels of maintenance reliability by providing both mechanical predictive and preventive maintenance on all equipment.  Reviews daily downtime logs, completed maintenance PM’s, and existing action plans to identify issues and resolve them by scheduling appropriate maintenance work.  Responsible for coordinating maintenance activities with the maintenance superintendent, and impacted individuals; maintains and updates the preventative maintenance program; is responsible for coordinating the training of the millwright staff. Duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department and staffing levels and the maintenance supervisor will continue to develop towards the potential to be a maintenance superintendent.

    Essential Job Duties:

    Daily Activities – Review the daily whistle log, completed work orders and issued PM’s from the prior day and review it with the lead millwright; Coordinate the scheduling of work with the lead millwright based on the information from the whistle log, work orders, and issued PM’s. Create the work list with input from the maintenance superintendent and begin to create a list of needed parts to complete tasks, on more complex parts, get input and direction from the superintendent on where/how to order them. Give direction to the lead on what parts they need to order. Focus on the “Big Picture” items that impact maintenance reliability, chronic issues, etc. As needed, attend and contribute at scheduled meetings which include daily and weekly KPI’s, maintenance planning and review meetings, and project meetings.

    Core Responsibilities – Work with the following individuals to maximize production, minimize downtime, and reduce costs: Work with the maintenance superintendent to provide direction on needed activities, leadership, and direction for the millwright team. Work with the lead millwright to create the work schedules for the millwrights to cover shifts and provide off shift maintenance time, direct the lead millwright and millwrights in their activities and keep them focused on needed tasks and coordinate with the lead millwright to ensure we have weekend maintenance coverage for all scheduled maintenance work. Work with the maintenance and production superintendents to keep them informed of all problems and progress on resolving them and to receive input on issues which need to be resolved.

    Scheduling – Coordinates with the maintenance superintendent to make decisions regarding priority of equipment repairs, overtime, and staffing needs: works with the lead millwright to order parts, equipment and tools to complete assigned tasks. Coordinate with the lead millwright to develop the specific maintenance schedules for all mill equipment, and ensures that they are carried out; assists in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and the production process. Coordinate the ordering of parts and tools with the maintenance manager. Work with the lead millwright to give leadership to the weekend work team to complete the list and provide additional direction as needed; review the weekend maintenance list with the lead millwright to check to see if it is complete and what follow up work needs to be done.

    Preventative Maintenance – Coordinates all PM’s to ensure they are being done and give feedback to the maintenance superintendent if they are not completed; coordinates with the maintenance superintendent to maintain the preventative maintenance plan by auditing machine center maintenance history and updating PM’s in DynaStar.

    General Activities – Assists in resolving technical equipment repair problems and perform maintenance tasks as needed or utilize internal and external resources to resolve problems; contributes in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and the production process. Give input on decisions regarding priority of equipment repairs, overtime, and staffing needs.

    Training & Mentoring – Be a coach and mentor to the less experienced millwrights.  Coordinate with the maintenance manager to conduct in house and external training. (Example: hydraulic training, diagram reading, pneumatic systems, etc.) Provide honest and timely feedback to the millwright team through routine informal contact and conduct a weekly meeting with the millwright group to provide team direction and instruction. Responsible for conducting yearly performance evaluations of the millwrights, identifying strengths they can help with in training others and identifying areas they need training in.

    Projects - Work with the maintenance superintendent and mill services in scheduling all millwrights on projects or mill modifications to reduce cost of outside contractors and improve the knowledge of mill millwrights.

    Policies & Procedures – Support and promote company policies and procedures while encouraging positive behavior in each member of the maintenance team. Be a leader in the SHARP process. Be a participant of the SLTP process while working towards being a competent leader with the ability to fill in for the maintenance superintendent as needed.  Assist the maintenance superintendent to identify potential candidates for the SLTP process. Coordinates the completion of administrative paperwork and reporting related to production reports, scheduling, personnel actions, timekeeping and safety; provides honest and timely feedback to electrical personnel through informal daily communication, weekly meetings, and yearly performance evaluations. Be responsible for working with the safety committee by sponsoring a sub-committee, assisting with inspections and incident investigations and following up on hazard reporting.

    Working Environment:  (1) Inside 30%, average temperature 60 degrees, extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F;  (2) Outside 70%.  Noise or vibration:   Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts.  Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis; (3) Atmospheric conditions:  Fumes: Wet wood, Resin, Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Wet wood, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None.

    Personal Protective Equipment Required:  (1) Eye Protection; (2) Hearing Protection; (3) Safety Vest; (4) Approved Footwear; (5) Hardhat.

    Physical Demands:  Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, climb ladders and negotiate work areas in the manufacturing environment.  Requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.  Ability to sit, talk hear; stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

    Mental demands:  Organizing and coordinating schedules; analyzing and interpreting data.  Must be able to problem solve, build employee development and handle employee issues.  Must be able to concentrate in a noisy environment, deal with frequent interruptions, juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, exercise independent judgment or perform other mental tasks.

    3. CMMS and other computer skills.
    4. Operators must be self-directed to identify and efficiently complete each task.
    5. Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.
    6. Journeyman level millwright.
    7. Must possess leadership skills and be experienced in hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, electricity, and understand fire suppression system.
    8. Must possess practical problem solving skills.
    9. Must be able to lockout machinery by following machine specific lockout procedures and provide effective training to millwrights.
    10. Trained in confined space entry, fall protection, crane, forklift, and aerial lift operation.        
    11. Ability to read and interpret documents such as blue prints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    12. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    13. Must be able to communicate with co-workers face to face, via radio, email, and telephone.
    14. Basic computer skills and understanding, with a focus on the Computerized Maintenance Management System and Dynastar.
    15. Use vision/hearing continuously, reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, Machine Specific Lockout Procedures, monthly safety training topics, and Job Certification if applicable.
    16. Must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each next task.
