Furnace Operator/Tender sets-up, operates, maintains, and controls furnaces to melt metal to specified temperatures. Adjusts controls to regulate the furnace and to maintain specified temperature. Being a Furnace Operator/Tender requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Furnace Operator/Tender relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.     What You Will Do :

    Process parts, following defined work instructions

    Test parts for work instruction compliance

    Maintain inventory in work area

    Use hand and power tools

    Internal strains and rearrange internal structure.

    Arranges material on table for manual feeding.

    Ensures quality of product by observing condition and position of material during the process.

    Starts and shuts down furnaces by setting controls, valves, lighting pilots and burners.

    Sets heat control units and conveyor speeds at temperatures and rates instructed by supervisor or QA printout.

    Maintains heat codes and completes and submits the required paperwork.

    Responsible for the proper lubrication of equipment.

    Reports to supervisor any unusual conditions in operation, equipment, or material.

    Responsible for production, quality, and safe operating practices.

    Obtains reasonable production with minimal supervision.

    Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

    Complete required documentation

    Troubleshoot issues with equipment

    Repair equipment

    Other duties may be assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications :

    High School diploma or GED

    A year of manufacturing / shop experience

    Valid driver's license in state of residence required.

    Must be 21 years of age to operate company vehicle.

    Working knowledge of hand & power tools, overhead crane

    Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite

    Able to complete required documentation

    Able to troubleshoot equipment

    Able to repair equipment

    Understanding of testing equipment and criteria

    Physical Demands :

    Role is deemed safety sensitive and may be subject to employer or customer drug testing.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

    The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to pick, feel, and / or inspect material. The employee will also reach with arms and hands as needed.

    Physical Activities

    Medium work : Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and / or hands and arms.

    Body agility is emphasized.

    Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.

    Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

    Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knees.

    Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

    Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.

    Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

    Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

    Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.

    Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.

    Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in handling.

    Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

    Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

    Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to customer or other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

    Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.

    Substantial movement (motions) of the wrists, hands, and / or fingers to use a computer.

    Visual Acuity

    The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as : visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and / or operation of machines (including inspection), using measurement devices, and / or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

    The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.

    The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
