Job Summary:
The Director of Development/Fundraising for Children’s Discovery Museum is a key leadership position responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support the museum's mission, programs, and operations. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role involves cultivating relationships with donors, securing funding from various sources, and overseeing all aspects of development efforts.
Duties:
· Collaborate with the CEO and Fundraising Committee to develop annual and long-term fundraising goals and strategies aligned with the museum's mission and priorities.
· Conduct prospect research to identify potential donors, sponsors, and funding opportunities.
· Create and implement fundraising plans, including individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events.
· Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
· Develop personalized cultivation and stewardship plans for major donors and supporters.
· Ensure timely and meaningful acknowledgment of donations and ongoing communication with donors to foster engagement and retention.
· Research grant opportunities and manage the grant application process from prospecting to submission.
· Write compelling grant proposals and reports, ensuring alignment with funder requirements and museum priorities.
· Track grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and deliverables to ensure compliance and successful grant management.
· Plan, execute, and evaluate fundraising events, including galas, donor receptions, and community engagement activities.
· Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote fundraising events and campaigns through various channels.
· Develop and manage capital campaigns or special fundraising initiatives to support specific projects or expansion efforts.
· Represents the organization by making presentations, attending meetings, giving facility tours, etc.
· Collaborate with other departments, including marketing, education, and operations, to integrate fundraising efforts and maximize impact.
· Recruit, develop and cultivate corporate sponsorships for events using creative strategies including cold calling, networking, leveraging volunteer connections, etc.
· Act as point person for third party fundraising events and manage the relationships and promotion of these events.
· Provide timely and consistent reports on progress of research, cultivation, and relationships.
· Provide timely and accurate information to donor requests for major and planned gifts.
· Maintain donor database with updated notes, gift records and other donor information.
· Participate in marketing and promotional activities conducted on behalf of Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert major donor fundraising efforts in the Coachella Valley.
· Manage outside vendors for all events including maintaining websites for events including developing and curating engaging content for social media platforms.
· Provide and follow customer service standards of excellence. Instill commitment of service excellence in co-workers.
· Demonstrate compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies. Take action to resolve issues.
· Perform other duties as assigned. Must be flexible to changing policies and procedures as well as varying deadlines.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
· At least 5 years of experience in Executive Level fundraising.
· Preferred 3-5 years of experience in Executive level fundraising experience with a non-profit.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Flexibility to work on weekends, holidays, and extended hours when required.
· Ability and experience in developing relationships with major donors.
· Ability to organize resources to achieve defined fundraising goals.
· Ability to manage a fundraising staff to achieve defined performance goals.
· Ability to inspire people.
· Skilled in use of MS Office Software (Word and Outlook)
· Knowledge of and experience with fundraising marketing techniques
· Familiarity with fundraising/database management software *Blackbaud/Altru a plus
