Reviews and responds to suspected fraudulent service requests and identifies fraudulent transactions using various research methods. Being a Fraud Prevention Associate follows standard procedures to document a loss and prepares a summary and reconciliation. Communicates the status and resolution of the incident to the customer and/or bank. Additionally, Fraud Prevention Associate identifies areas that need increased security procedures or software to protect customer accounts. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Fraud Prevention Associate works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) a research institute, within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), that focuses on the study of worker safety and health. A priority at NIOSH is to develop new knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health and to transfer that knowledge into practice, and empowering employers and workers to create safe and healthy workplaces. To do this, NIOSH conducts work-related research and makes recommendations to prevent worker injury and illness. The work done at NIOSH impacts every part of the American workforce.

    About this Job:

    The Associate Director for Mining is responsible for managing, directing, coordinating, overseeing, and evaluating all activities of the Institute’s mining programs, along with creating and maintaining strong relationships with mining industry groups. The Associate Director will provide leadership and support for the Directors of the Pittsburgh Mining Research Division and the Spokane Mining Research Division. This position serves as a Special Advisor to the Institute Director on all matters related to the overall NIOSH Mining Program. This Distinguished Consultant position is in the Excepted Service under Title 42.

    Preferred Experience:

    • An extensive background as an Engineer, Health Scientist, Geologist, Physical Scientist, Industrial Hygienist, or other related field.
    • Experience working with a broad range of partners and decision-makers in mining industry.
    • Experience guiding and coordinating mining research, occupational and public health science, policy, and innovation.
    • A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctorate degree from an accredited university.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide advice and assistance on mining program, scientific policies, activities, and operations.
    • Plan, develop, evaluate, and manage mining-related occupational safety and health public health research programs.
    • Lead the Institute in establishing mining programmatic goals to meet or exceed the Institute's mining mission within approved appropriations/budget.
    • Liaise with top officials of other Federal, State, and local government organizations, and/or public and private partners, advancing the organization's mining research goals and programs.
    • Develop occupational and public health goals and objectives that integrate the organization's mining mission and carry out quality improvements, as needed.
    • Represent the Director on various committees on matters regarding the mining program with full authority to speak and act on behalf of the organization.

    Qualifications:

    • Have a Ph.D. or other earned doctorate in one or more of the following: Engineering, or a degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health science, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position
    • Experience must be in an engineering/scientific assignment but may also include management responsibilities
    • Have professional experience and stature that is appropriate with the duties of the position
    • No previous federal experience is required

    Salary:

    $191,900.00 - $246,400.00 per year

    Telework eligible:

    Travel Required:

    Occasional travel – 25% or less domestic travel may be required for this position

    Locations: The position may be in Washington, District of Columbia; Atlanta, Georgia; Cincinnati, Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Denver, Colorado; or Spokane, Washington. The duty location will be determined upon selection.
