JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position reports to the VP Operations. The position is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient running of the Foundry Process Engineering function of the organization and the Pattern Shop. The objectives for the department will be achieved by implementing a safe, lean and metrics driven culture to sustain the optimal performance. They are responsible for ensuring that products meet the requirements of the customer and that operations have all the necessary details to produce parts as required.
AUTHORITY LEVELS:
- This position is accountable to the VP Operations for the effective control and management of the process engineering department.
- Has the authority to create and modify technical documentation pertaining to the production processes and requirements as required.
- Has the authority to review and respond to customer complaints and liaise with customers during the design and development or product and process improvement process.
- Has the authority to hold production or products as required until released to continue or parts are scrapped.
- Create quotations for pattern creation or modification.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Foundry Engineering Manager is responsible for the effective operations of the process engineering department and pattern shop. They will partner with other functional areas as required to ensure operational activities are supported to deliver the overall business objectives, meeting product and customer requirements, whilst maintaining efficiencies in manufacturing. They will also support the business’s overall objectives consistent with the Manufacturing Excellence strategy.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The position is responsible for safety and maintenance of all necessary equipment required for the departments.
- The position is responsible for providing all necessary documentation and processes to allow for achievable but acceptable lead times.
- Responsible for all processes in the foundry pertaining to the production of castings.
- Responsible for the assessment and introduction of any new product that will affect any process pertaining to the production of castings.
- Ensure a safe working environment is provided for all staff and create a safety driven culture.
- Ensure equipment is maintained and operational through PM planning and servicing.
- Create a metrics driven culture, through accurate recording and monitoring of site KPls.
- Review capital budgets and ensure expenditure is kept within agreed limits.
- Communicate with Operations to ensure correct and timely delivery of required products to meet DOT.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Maintaining a safe working environment.
- Provide the optimum resources to ensure throughput of work to maintain production schedules and DOT.
- Review KPI reports in a timely manner with relevant departments.
- Ensure accurate calculation of pay-back for capital projects.
- Ensure all products are being produced to all current Customer, National and International standards as required.
