Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Essential Functions, Fundraising:


    • Create and manage a personal prospect pipeline of corporations and foundations through in-person visits, virtual visits, group presentations, phone contacts, and emails.
    • Prepare, review, edit and submit formal proposals; collate and interpret available research data pertinent to the development of relationships with potential donors.
    • Prepare and present reports for Foundation officials, University partners, and external audiences.
    • Initiate a strategy specific to each prospect or donor, connecting them to the University and setting up a solicitation that is tailored to their situation and maximizes the impact for the University and its beneficiaries.
    • Establish professional relationships with deans, faculty, and unit directors across campus to facilitate the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts ($25,000 ) and principal gifts ($500,000 ).
    • Document interactions with donors and potential donors in an appropriate and timely manner.
    • Occasional regional and national travel to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate and foundation prospects and donors, focusing on major and principal gift opportunities.
    • Update and inform supervisors and other staff of goal status, new plans, and project status, and ensure that a cooperative team effort is made to meet goals and objectives.
    • Meet quantitative and qualitative performance metrics, established by supervisor.
    • Provide input on annual travel budget to supervisor.
    • May produce or assist in producing marketing materials to support development efforts.
    • Proactively identify prospects to evaluate, develop and implement plans for solicitation strategies.
    • Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and systems.
    • May represent the Foundation’s interests pertaining to corporations and foundations to the University; serve in official and unofficial advisory roles as determined by the Foundation.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Required Education, Knowledge, Experience & Certification/License:


    • An energetic, well-grounded, innovative, service-oriented personality and calculated risk taker with a bias for action, a record of setting and surpassing objectives, and the proven “can do” attitude and drive to execute strategies and produce results beyond expectations.
    • Must be willing and able to travel regionally and nationally, occasionally, as needed
    • Must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
    • Evening and/or weekend work may be required coinciding with events and meetings. Ability to work flexible schedule.
    • High degree of ethical conduct, integrity, dependability, use of sound judgment, diplomacy, and resourcefulness, that will inspire confidence with colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters relating to sensitive donor relations issues.
    • Familiar with a PC environment, including strong skills in using the computer as a tool for analysis, planning, and management. Ability to function in a highly networked environment using Microsoft Office.
    • Effective writer, communicator and collaborator who excels in connecting with diverse internal and external constituents.

      • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
      • 3 years of experience securing gifts of at least $25,000 from corporations and foundations, preferably within a university setting .

    • Director of Corporation and Foundation Relations:
      • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
      • 5 years of experience securing gifts of at least $25,000 from corporations and foundations, preferably within a university setting (3 years with a master’s degree).
      • Experience with donor databases.
      • Success building productive, professional relationships with faculty and campus partners.
      • Serve as a subject matter expert, employing a comprehensive regimen of fundraising knowledge to make compelling cases for support of goals and objectives to secure gifts.
    • Senior Director of Corporation and Foundation Relations:
      • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
      • 7 years of experience securing gifts of at least $25,000, preferably within a university setting (5 years with a master’s degree).
      • Experience with donor databases.
      • Success building productive, professional relationships with faculty and campus partners.
      • Serve as a subject matter expert, employing a comprehensive regimen of fundraising knowledge to make compelling cases for support of goals and objectives to secure gifts.
