Sonoma County Conservation Action’s mission is to better our quality of life in Sonoma County for all generations, through educating and directly engaging the public on local environmental issues and policies. SCCA’s staff has knocked on tens of thousands of doors for the past 25 years, proactively advocating a) for the protection of air and water and open space resources, b) for a much greater emphasis on pedestrian, bike, bus and train transportation; and, c) for the election of environmentally responsible elected official to implement environmentally progressive policies.
One of SCCA’s driving goals is to create and maintain environmental majorities on the local City Councils and Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. This is done through our extensive candidate endorsement process, and the follow through of our canvassers, who door-knock, handshake, and identify progressive voters months before every election. Conservation Action then acts as a watchdog that holds local elected officials accountable by publishing a annual political report card, which grades these officials on their environment voting records and on how well they are listening to their constituents.
