    Responsibilities

    This technician will assist departmental conservators to document objects to be treated: setting up database records, doing all photo documentation, writing up initial condition assessments, and carrying out basic treatments. One day a week the technician, collaborating with Museum Preparation staff, will be responsible for carrying out Gallery Maintenance in the exhibition galleries and preventative conservation activities in Collections spaces. The technician will also be responsible for movement of artifacts within the Museum. Responsible for positive and helpful interactions with Museum visitors, acting as the Museum's host, answering questions and providing assistance as needed to ensure our guests encounter a welcoming atmosphere. Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge of Axiell EMu or a similar collections management database will be helpful.

    Knowledge of digital photography, digital photography processing, specialized digital photography methods such as Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) and multimodal imaging (MMI) will be an asset.

    Sound work habits, personal initiative, and organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to undertake moderate to heavy lifting are essential.

    Candidate will uphold collegial and collaborative working relationships with conservation staff and other departments.

    Work Schedule

    The standard workweek at this location is Monday - Friday but occasional weekend work may be needed.

    Position Terms

    This is a term appointment that will be needed through at least June 2023 and may be extended through June 2024, with renewal contingent upon funding, satisfactory performance, and Museum needs.

    Desired Formal Education

    Bachelor's Degree required in related fields.

    Desired Work Experience

    Previous experience with conservation is a requirement.
