The Rutland Area Food Co-Op is now hiring for a Wellness Buyer. This is a part-time position but can be combined with front-end responsibilities for full-time if desired. This is a great opportunity to be an active part of our growing community.
Purpose: To select, price and merchandise nonfoods, supplements, and health and
beauty products to meet objectives for sales, margin and customer service. Greg

Responsibilities:
I. GENERAL MANAGERIAL
● Monitor adherence to purchasing and sales budgets.
II. CUSTOMER SERVICE
● Knowledgeable about all Wellness Dept. products. Answer questions accurately and courteously.
● Assists customers with product/procedure questions in a prompt, and courteous manner.
● Helps customers place special orders.
III. PURCHASING
● Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, delivery.
● Evaluate suppliers and investigate new sources of supply.
● Ensure orders are received in accordance with established procedures.
● Maintain appropriate stock levels and accuracy.
● Review invoices for accuracy and pass them on appropriately for payment.
● Trains and operates the POS system to maintain proper cost and pricing of items to ensure margin performance meets established goals.
IV. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Achieves budgeted sales.
● Achieves budgeted margins.
● Keeps supplies within budget.
V. MERCHANDISING
● Ensure shelves are fully stocked and rotated to ensure products do not expire before being sold.
● Ensure displays and shelves are clean and well organized.
● Ensure that all products are accurately labeled for description and price including accurate sales signage.
● Participates fully in all relevant promotional vehicles.
VI. DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
● Coordinate storage of items.
● Ensure that Wellness department’s retail and storage areas are maintained in a
clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
● Prepare for and ensure accuracy of inventory counts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● At least one year of purchasing in a natural foods store.
● Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet programs.
● Knowledge of trends in the natural foods industry.
● Communication skills -- good listener, give clear instructions.
● Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
