    Salary Range - $48,000 - $53,000

    Role Summary
    The Supervisor – Food Services is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the operation of food services according to Boys & Girls Haven’s mission, center/campus standards, procedures and individualized resident care plans.  Prepares food, develops recipes, determines serving sizes, plans menus, orders food supplies, and oversees kitchen operations to ensure uniform quality and presentation of meals.

    Essential Functions
    1. Resident Nutritional Care - Oversees and assures appropriate nutritional care for all residents according to physician orders, state/federal regulations and resident care plans. Prepares and assures nutritious appetizing meals, snacks and supplements are planned, prepared, and served in a pleasant atmosphere. Pack breakfast for all locations for staff to serve and complete meal count roster.  Cook lunch and dinner meals. Pack breakfast, lunch and dinner meals for Saturday and Sunday.
     
    1. Resident Rights - Maintains residents’ self-esteem, privacy and confidentiality of personal information. Provides residents with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their care plans. Ensures residents’ common dietary areas are pleasant and orderly.  Complies with HIPAA privacy rules
     
    1. Communication - Assesses residents’ nutritional needs and documents nutritional care provided to resident. Receives and shares information; observes and reports residents’ conditions to appropriate staff.
     
    1. Supervisory Responsibilities - Manage department in an efficient and cost-effective manner.  Demonstrates understanding of the work of position(s) supervised; assigns daily work clearly, gives staff authority to complete. Updates staff on changes in work or workplace.  Assists direct reports in establishing goals and achieving successful results.  Monitors staff performance daily and gives informal daily feedback and structured feedback. Completes and shares performance appraisals on a timely basis.  Trains new staff / assures new employees are being oriented well; provides retraining when needed, either personally or assuring the appropriate person provides the training. Encourages employees’ participation in staff meetings, in-services, and educational opportunities.  Provides recognition to employees who perform their duties correctly or go the extra mile; encourages others to improve performance. Encourages employees to take on new challenges. Asks employees to help formulate solutions to problems in the work place.  Listens/serves as a resource and advocate for work problems, equipment, and supply needs and employee complaints; listens in a caring manner and directs staff to resources for personal crises and problems. Inquires as to how the work is going, checks to see if staff have what they need to do the job. Encourages staff; asks and invites involvement and feedback from staff. 
     
    1. Administrative Responsibilities - Maintain written Food Service policies & procedures, and all relevant documentation, specifically: HACCP temperature sheets; lunch meal count for Kelly lunches; Food Service vendor ordering; milk ordering; menu planning; productions sheets; refrigerator/freezer temperature logs; dish machine temperature sheets.  Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluation, studies, etc., to assure control of equipment and supplies.  Responsible for data entry and upkeep up with documentation regarding: HACCP temperature sheets; NSLP posters; KY Dept. of Education required RCCI daily care CRE edit worksheet; lunch meal count; KY-FD-3ODS; productions sheets; refrigerator/freezer temperature logs; dish machine temperature sheets; and all necessary documentation including procurement policies and code of ethics.
     
    1. Review and assist in developing a plan of correction for Food Service deficiencies noted during survey inspections.  Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government or other regulatory agencies.  Maintain a reference library of written material, laws, diet manuals, etc., necessary for complying with current standards and regulations and will provide assistance in maintaining quality food service.  Provides catering, as needed, for internal meetings and for outside organizations/groups as Food Service schedule permits.  Develop and monitor adequate inventory control procedures.  Ensures that stock levels of staple/non-staple food, supplies, equipment, etc., are maintained at adequate levels at all times.  Assists in developing and implementing procedures which ensure that Food Service supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste. Oversee and execute food/provisions are properly rotated. Cleaning kitchen.
     
    1. Interpersonal Skills - Is tolerant of others’ work styles and works with team members, supervisors and others in a helpful, respectful, courteous and effective manner.  Volunteers assistance to co-workers as time permits or as directed. Respects and encourages diversity in the workplace. Resolves interpersonal conflict with co-workers directly and privately and seeks supervisor assistance as necessary. Responds to the exercise of authority or corrective action in a tactful manner. Follows chain of command as appropriate when reporting issues or concerns.
     
    1. Safety - Maintains safe work practices and follows center/campus safety procedures; includes checking equipment before use, operating equipment safely and following safe and proper techniques for chemical / cleaning solution use, and follows center/campus emergency procedures.  Ensures the work area (kitchen and dining areas) is clean and sanitary.  Ensures that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at all times. Assume the responsibility of obtaining/maintaining material safety data sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used or stored in the Food Service department.  Inspect food storage rooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control.  Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the BGH’s policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.
     
    1. Infection Control - Follows center/campus infection control procedures, including using appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment); demonstrates consistent and appropriate hand-washing techniques. Follows procedure for employee illness.  Personal cleanliness and hygiene are essential.   Ensure that all personnel performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals participate in appropriate in-service training programs prior to performing such tasks. 
     
    1. Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently: sit, stand, walk; climb (ladder, step stool, stairs); balance; kneel, crouch or squat; bend/stoop; pivot/ twist; touch/grasp with hands, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms above, below or to the side of shoulders / body; taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 25-34 pounds. Hear others in face-to-face speech, on the telephone and /or intercom. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to read, write, type/computer entry and converse in English.
    ​​​​​​​    11.  Work Environment - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a standard food service kitchen environment.  Kitchens can be crowded and hot and filled with potential dangers, such as hot ovens and slippery floors. Job hazards for those working in kitchens include slips and falls, cuts, and burns, but these injuries are seldom serious. The employee is under constant pressure to get meals prepared quickly, while ensuring quality is maintained and safety and sanitation guidelines are observed. Because the pace can be hectic during peak dining times, workers must be able to communicate clearly so that food orders and service are done correctly.  The employee will come into contact with BGH clients, staff members, Board members, volunteers and other members of the community.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

    Unplanned Activities: At BGH, we value teamwork.  To meet departmental and organizational goals, the employee is expected to assist with activities that are not formal parts of the role’s essential functions.

    Qualifications:
    Education - A high school diploma or GED required.  Degree in culinary arts and/or an accredited course in dietetic training approved by the American Dietetic Association preferred.  

    Experience/Credentials – Minimum three year(s) experience in the food services industry, preferably in a supervisory role.  Must be able to cook and use kitchen equipment.  Training in cost control and food management are essential.  Knowledgeable of food service practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations and guidelines governing food service functions in the residential facility required.  Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of a Food Services Department.  Ability to read and interpret food service cost reports, financial data, etc.  Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of Food Service areas; must perform regular inspections of Food Service areas for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties.  Possess the ability to seek out new methods and be willing to incorporate them into existing food service practices.  Certification in Safe Serve Food Handling.

    Other - Demonstrated patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.  Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and residents. Excellent organization, communication and time-management skills needed.  Detail-oriented and able to effectively prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks for maximum productivity.  Must have the ability to meet multiple deadlines.   Able to use Microsoft Office Suite and other BGH database(s), calculators, and other office equipment. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.  Ability to remain calm and composed during stressful situations.  Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to make independent judgments/decisions.  Ability to work independently.
