Child Services Manager - CSM

  • Job Summary: 

    The primary purpose of the CS Child Services Manager (CSM) is to enhance the quality of our CS client services and to promote continuity of care through department management of Sacred Heart Center Child Services.  SHCCS is an accredited facility to provide group care and shelter for children in South Dakota.  Under the direction of the CS Director, the CSM position will manage the day-to-day department services for the Sacred Heart Center Child Services department. The CSM is responsible for leading and supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the CS services and SHC Mission.  The CSM is responsible for the overall daily operations of the residential component of the Sacred Heart Center Child Services program and direct care staff.

     

    This position requires excellent organizational skills and sound judgment in the decision-making process. This position is a part of the management/leadership team for the Children's Services Shelter and partners with the CS Case Manager and CS Director to ensure our clients and services are meeting standards. The CSM will possess both excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary for conducting business internally and externally.  Provide leadership for client services and program development/assessment. 


    Job Duties & Responsibilities:

    1. Responsible for overall department management of the CS client services and programs, including ensuring compliance with all regulations, licensing, and contract requirements, and all program policies and procedures.
    2. Provides leadership to and supervision of CS staff, including all YCW, the Administrative Assistant, and the Food Supply Specialist, and ensures the development and achievement of individual staff goals.
    3. Under the oversight of the CS Director, the CSM is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and updating client programs. Works in partnership with the CS Case Manager for client treatment plans and reporting requirements.
    4. Responsible for managing and tracking the schedules for CS staff and coordinates with the CS Case Manager and YCW Supervisor to ensure appropriate staffing for client appointments and transports.
    5. Maintains a professional work environment to ensure each client receives the appropriate services and that staff are trained to meet the changing demands of the program and center.
    6. Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in weekly/bi-weekly meetings such as CS staff meetings, placing agencies, counselors, other service providers, and attorneys/prosecutors as needed, as well as coordinating cases with the CS Case Manager for effective staffing.
    7. Coordinate with staff and therapists in identifying and arranging educational groups and classes such as independent living skills, anger management, behavior management, etc.
    8. Provide oversight and assist with preadmissions processes, orientation, client intakes, and assessment of newly admitted clients.
    9. Responsible for reporting concerns to the CS Director and/or the appropriate outside agency such as DSS, DHS, etc., where appropriate.
    10. Facilitate meetings with other agencies based on client needs. (e.g. Work, Schools, Behavioral Health, Job Training, Independent Living Skills/ Facilities, treatment centers, etc.) and ensure staff work approved methodologies for each resident in securing needed services and resources.
    11. Provide general management of the CS budget, under the oversight of the CS Directors, and ensure all spending is approved and in alignment with standards.
    12. Provide oversight of internal petty cash, incident reports, PQI, Staff Surveys, and other internal policies and procedures
    13. Lead and manage staff meetings, coordinating with the CS Director and Case Manager
    14. Regularly works 40 hours per week as required to meet the needs of SHC and its mission, primarily working Monday through Friday. Some evenings or weekends may be required to meet the needs of our facility and clients or to supervise staff.
    15. Provides other services and work duties as needed to meet the needs of the Sacred Heart Center and its ability to carry out its mission.

    This position is supervised by the Director of Child Services. 


        2. Supervision Provided:

    This position is a supervisor role and provides direct and indirect supervision to all YCW, the Administrative Assistant, and the Food Supply Specialist. 


    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. Education and Experience:
    • Associate's degree from a Regionally Accredited institution is required.
    • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline is strongly preferred.
    • 2 years of work as a Youth Care Worker or direct care staff required.
    • Must be at least 21 years old.
    • Significant knowledge of the cultural and social patterns of the population we serve.
    • 2 years of experience supervising staff.
    • Experience communicating with clients and staff.
    • Experience working in or with Tribal communities and Native American populations is required; experience working on a Reservation is strongly preferred.

       2. Skills & Abilities:

      • Ensure and maintain confidentiality at all times
      • Computer skills - must possess excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, and Outlook with the ability to learn job-specific programs and software
      • Interpersonal skills - must be able to communicate effectively with administrative staff and departmental staff
      • Job Knowledge: possess the necessary skills to complete necessary tasks for the position.  This includes previous supervisory experience and background in working with at-risk or vulnerable individuals.
      • Ability to network with a variety of outside agencies and personnel serving the clients in residence at SHC Child Services.
      • Possess both excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Background in grant writing and reporting

          3. Additional Requirements:

        • Possess a valid South Dakota Driver’s License
        • Be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
        • Successfully pass pre-employment Drug Screen
        • Be able to successfully pass a Request to Screen for Child Abuse/Neglect from the Department of Social Services
        • Successfully pass Criminal Background Check.
