Uses hand tools, power tools, and other manufacturing assembly line equipment to assemble units. Being an Floor Assembler tests and calibrates parts and mechanisms to ensure all components meet tolerances, product specifications, and quality standards. May repair or refit parts or units that fail tests or tolerance levels. Additionally, Floor Assembler keeps daily assembly production records. Maintains a clean and organized work environment. This is a mechanical assembly position
Someone out of technical school can do this position.
Primary Duties: The Assembler position consists of two (2) parts - hub assembly and hub/drum assembly.
A two (2) man team changes duties on a 24-hour rotation. Hubs are loaded by a robot onto the conveyor 60% of the time. If necessary, the Hub Assembler turns approximately 180 degrees to hand lift a hub onto the conveyor.
The Hub Assembler is responsible for pushing/pulling a hub on a mechanically assisted conveyor. The hubs weigh either 38 lbs each or 48 lbs each depending on the line being run.
The Hub Assembler lifts the hub into a load assist mechanism approximately six (6) inches from the conveyor.
The Hub Assembler turns to the rear to obtain bolts and bearing cups for assembly. Each items weighs approximately one (1) pound. One item is to be lifted and put into the hub at a time. The table holding the parts is waist high.
The Hub/Drum Assembler swings the load assist into position for adding the brake drum component.
The load assist holds approximately 70 pounds and operates on bearings with no friction.
The brake drum rises up on an arbor to meet the height of the assemble position with the hub component.
There is no lifting involved in this task.
The Hub/Drum Assembler attaches two (2) nuts to the unit with a pneumatic gun.
The completed assembly is pushed on conveyors.
The approximate weight of the assembly is 130-140 pounds.
The assembled unit is picked up with a pneumatic jib crane and put on a skid for shipment.
Candidates must be able to perform the physical requirements of this position.
Miscellaneous duties include driving the forklift to obtain parts.
