Fleet Manager manages the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the organization's fleet of motor vehicles. Oversees scheduling and dispatch operations for vehicles and drivers. Being a Fleet Manager evaluates, purchases, leases, and disposes of vehicles to maintain the fleet. Develops and maintains vendor and service provider relationships for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services. Additionally, Fleet Manager administers insurance policy coverage, negotiates agreements, and participates in claim resolution. Develops and implements safety, preventive maintenance, and accident prevention programs. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and fleet-specific regulations, licensing, registration, and reporting requirements. Manages the fleet expense reporting and budgets. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Fleet Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Fleet Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. The ideal candidates should have a background in fast paced environments including experience with multi-line phones, and computer proficiency including Word and Excel. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Serve as a reliable point of contact to balance drivers' health and safety with customer requirements.
- Coordinate and manage the most efficient loads to remain cost-effective as a company, combining shipments, when necessary, based on their routes and timeline to minimize how many trucks and drivers are out.
- Ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.
- Coordinate the maintenance requirements between the driver and maintenance to ensure timely and safe operation of the equipment
- Manage and oversee the effective utilization of the district's vehicle assets.
- Facilitate communication between the driver, terminal manager, and customer service.
- Monitor and facilitate driver's progress throughout the day to ensure loads are delivered safely and within HOS regulations.
- Ensuring and coordinating driver compliance with all FMCSA requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
- Associates or bachelor's degree preferred, GED or high school diploma required.
- Pneumatic dispatch with TMW experience preferred.
- 1 years in a transportation or logistics role.
- Outstanding organizational skills.
- Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills.
- Quantitative ability.
- Attention to detail.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- A strong background in navigating web-based computer programs
