Fitness Instructor
POSITION SUMMARY:
The fitness instructor will lead fitness classes in a fun and safe environment. The instructor must have a positive, professional, outgoing personality, be encouraging to participants, and enjoy being in front of a group. Instructor must exhibit enthusiasm for the Wellness Center and for health and fitness. The instructor must be accommodating to the abilities of each participant in the class, and work to promote health and wellness while upholding the wellness center’s operating standards in a professional manner at all times.
SHIFT: PRN; as-needed per schedule; up to 19 hours/week
SUPERVISION: Wellness Center Director
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified in the classes being taught.
- Knowledgeable about equipment use required for courses taught
- Knowledgeable about health and fitness, and able to communicate knowledge effectively to customers
- Enthusiastic and able to motivate others
- Excellent customer service skills
- Reliable, responsible, and mature
- Self-motivated, takes initiative, and is able to work without supervision
- High school education or equivalent, CPR/AED certification, and ACE certification required, and one year experience.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sets up class equipment as needed.
- Reports any incident or accident to Wellness Center Director.
- Provides information to members and class participants regarding health and fitness when requested.
- Becomes knowledgeable about the Wellness Center and its amenities in order to effectively communicate with members and/or guests.
- Helps ensure Wellness Center is only accessed by members, guests, and class participants; and that it is safe and secure at all times.
- Greets each and every guest with a smile and direct eye contact, always upholding great customer service. Ability to work under pressure, and solve problems in a professional manner.
- Informs front desk attendant(s) of pertinent information at the end of the shift.
- Informs Wellness Center Director of any member, guest, or Wellness Center issues.
- Ensures each class participant signs in properly, and has signed a participant waiver.
- Assists staff with lifting and storing Wellness Center equipment, furniture, and products to help maintain Wellness Center and prepare for special events.
- Cleans and puts away exercise equipment after each class and assists front desk staff with aerobic room cleaning as necessary.
- All other tasks as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- Maintains and promotes good health practices.
- Will conform to TCHS policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA.
- Understand and comply with the requirements of Thayer County Health Services’ Compliance Program, including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Manual. All supporting policies for compliance and compliance plans.
- Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by organizational policy and as requested by supervisor.
- Demonstrates AIDET with patients, visitor and TCHS staff.
- Willingly accepts new responsibilities and cooperates with implementation of change.
- Dresses in neat, clean professional attire according to Dress Policy; maintains high personal hygiene standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately for the requirements of position to be fully met.
