Fire Inspector Supervisor oversees the inspection of fire-damaged dwellings to determine cause and prevention. Enforces a variety of fire laws, regulations, and policies. Being a Fire Inspector Supervisor requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with at least 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Additionally, Fire Inspector Supervisor relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May direct and lead the work of others. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.     Inspectors are responsible for inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and backflows with minimal supervision.

    This position does not have direct reports.


    Minimum Qualifications

    High School Diploma or GED, required.

    NICET II or state specified certification, preferred.

    Backflow Certification in Tennessee


    Experience:

    • 3 years inspecting fire protection systems, required.
    • 1 years operating a computer utilizing Microsoft Office and accurately reading blueprints, required.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively, required.
    • Experience with Salesforce and ERP systems, preferred.
    • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required. Reliable transportation, required.
    • Must be able to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement.
    • Must be able to lift >50 lbs.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA codes with working knowledge of sprinkler controls, alarm panels, devices and critical components.
    • Record and report deficiencies of fire protection systems to Customers.
    • Communicate with internal and external customers as well as offsite monitoring companies in a professional manner.
    • Proper use and operation of tools required to complete the inspection (heat and smoke detector kit, backflow kit, pump equipment)
    • Plan, coordinate, and complete inspections as scheduled in a timely manner.
    • Required to be in an on-call status as required by location to handle emergency service and inspection requests
    • Ensure company provided vehicle is clean and well maintained as required by company policies.
    • Ensure that all assigned tools are safeguarded and maintained.
    • Understand and follow Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies and procedures. Participate in weekly Toolbox talks. Inspectors must know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project.
    • Attend seminars from time to time to stay abreast of changing technology, installation, and testing approaches.
    • Train inspector trainees in all applicable aspects of fire protection.
    • Ensure company provided vehicle is clean and well maintained in accordance with company policies.

    Physical Demands

    • Continual use of a computer and computer screens up to a full shift.
    • Continually standing, walking, balancing, sitting, etc.
    • Consistently required to bend, ascend, and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift <50 lbs., reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
    • Frequently be required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift >50 lbs., sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
    • Ability to safely operate a vehicle in accordance with company standards.


    Working Conditions

    • Frequent local travel. Travel and other locations will vary.
    • Consistently required to work inside and outside in hot/cold temperatures while standing on hard surfaces.
    • Occasionally be required to travel, work outside, work in wet conditions and be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards and noise.
    • As appropriate, wear personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies.
    • Personnel are assigned proper equipment.

    Essential Functions

    • Must be able to effectively communicate via phone, email, and other non-personal manners.
    • Navigate the internet and maintain internal database.
    • Lift <50 lbs. maintain mobility capable of receiving, inventorying, and stocking of equipment, material, and tools required to provide service.
    • Maintain driving capability in accordance with company policy.
    • Ability to perform lateral and assigned manager duties, as assigned.
