Fire Inspector jobs in New Mexico

Fire Inspector conducts inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire and safety codes. Prepares reports and issues violation documents. Being a Fire Inspector documents and defines actions needed to resolve non-compliance situations. Conducts fire investigations. Additionally, Fire Inspector has extensive knowledge of codes, ordinances, construction materials, and alarm systems. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science or equivalent. Has completed fire inspection training and may require the Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI) credential and applicable State License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Fire Inspector is capable of working on complex problems and exceptions without direct supervision. Has a wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of the job.     Fire Protection Inspector

    Although not required, it is beneficial for the successful candidate to be licensed as a fire sprinkler inspector, fire alarm inspector, and a fire extinguisher inspector.

    The Fire Protection Inspector is responsible for performing scheduled or unscheduled maintenance on fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and fire sprinklers in both residential and commercial spaces.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Performance of daily, weekly, monthly and / or annual inspections and preventative maintenance services on various sized fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and fire sprinkler systems
    • Repair, replace, fill and tag all fire extinguishers
    • Service and test all systems
    • Complete electronic and / or hand written inspection reports
    • Document time worked as well as all paperwork relating to assigned tasks in a timely manner
    • Assist the scheduling and completion of assigned duties
    • Ability to work independently and use provided personal protective equipment

    Job Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Two years of experience in the fire protection industry preferred
    • New Mexico Dept of Labor Sprinkler or Fire Alarm license preferred
    • Have an understanding of NFPA and building and fire codes
    • Ability to communicate effectively; both verbally and written
    • Valid driver’s license; in accordance with company policy required

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift up to 100lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
    • Regular bending, reaching, climbing and walking
    • Occasionally driving over 100 miles may be required
    • Climbing ladders up to 10 ft.
