Responsibilities
- Assist with and learn how to perform inspections and functional testing of fire sprinkler systems (including wet, dry, pre-action and fire pump testing) in accordance with all national and local standards
- Follow a structured inspection schedule and assist in the completion of all assigned inspections on time
- Assist in maintaining complete and accurate electronic documentation of tests performed including deficiency repair recommendations
- Assist with and learn how to identify and report deficiencies found during system inspections.
- Perform administrative duties including service acknowledgements, safety documentation and various other duties as required
- Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with company staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction
- Work towards obtaining NICET certifications by passing a series of required tests administered by a third-party testing organization
Skills / Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements
- Ability to work in a variety of circumstances including climbing ladders, scaffolds and high-lift equipment as well as working in ducts, crawl spaces and above ceilings
- Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds
- Ability to learn about the fire protection industry through field testing as well as studying of code books on your own time
- Must be able and willing to work overtime, including weekends on occasion to meet customer needs
- Able to pass a pre-employment background check
- Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders
- Regularly ascend/descend ladders up to 16 feet
- Ability to operate a scissor lift in a safe and effective manner.
Expectations
The expectation and goal of an inspection technician trainee is to become a NICET certified inspection technician. NICET certifications are required to be a lead inspector. To obtain a level 2 certification, you need a minimum of 2 years of experience in the inspection and testing of either fire alarm or fire sprinkler systems. Allegiant Fire Protection will give you all the training material, code books and experience needed to obtain these certifications. We even pay for the tests and incentivize you to pass them. All you have to do is show up to work, on time, every day, with a positive attitude, ready to learn and assist the lead inspector you are working with.
Your performance and knowledge will be tested as follows:
- 30 days: Company administered test
- 60 days: Company administered test
- 90 days: Company administered test
- 120 days: NICET administered practice test
- 6 months: eligible to take NICET level 1 test
- Must pass the NICET administered practice test before attempting the actual test
- Passing and obtaining a level 1 results in a pay increase
- 12-18 months: Company training classes and preparation for level 2 testing
- 18-24 months: eligible to begin testing for level 2 certifications
- Must pass the NICET administered practice test before attempting the actual tests
- Once all tests are passed, the 2 years of experience is met and level 2 certification is obtained, a significant pay increase will be awarded.
