Fire Inspector conducts inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire and safety codes. Prepares reports and issues violation documents. Being a Fire Inspector documents and defines actions needed to resolve non-compliance situations. Conducts fire investigations. Additionally, Fire Inspector has extensive knowledge of codes, ordinances, construction materials, and alarm systems. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science or equivalent. Has completed fire inspection training and may require the Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI) credential and applicable State License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Fire Inspector is capable of working on complex problems and exceptions without direct supervision. Has a wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of the job.     This position is part of the Fire Systems Team that performs inspections, testing & maintenance on various types of building fire systems in the healthcare environment. Those systems include (but not limited to) Fire Alarm, Fire Sprinkler, Fire Extinguishers, Fire Walls, Dampers. Individuals assigned to this role must be able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes within 2 years of job assignment.

    This position is located at St. Vincent's- Indianapolis, IN.
    Responsibilities:

    Fire Alarm Inspections

    • Assist in performing periodic fire alarm inspections to include: operation of panel, testing field devices, completion of associated documentation, recording test results to maintenance database via smart phone or computer & management of system inventory in maintenance database.

    Fire Sprinkler Inspections

    • Assist in performing periodic fire sprinkler inspections to include operation of panel, testing field devices, completion of associated documentation, recording test results to maintenance database via smart phone or computer & management of system inventory in maintenance database.

    Other Fire Systems Inspections

    • Fire Pump churn testing, Fire Extinguisher inspections & recording test results to maintenance database through smartphone or computer interfaces & management of system inventory in maintenance database.

    Routine Service and Repair Work

    • Making repairs to equipment found to be deficient during inspections or as reported by each facility. Routine service, adjustments & repairs to fire alarm components, fire sprinkler components, & also working with contractors as needed to complete repairs. Recording repairs in maintenance database.

    Planning, Coordinator & Communication

    • Ensuring that all periodic inspections are completed on fire alarm, fire sprinklers, fire pumps, fire extinguishers, etc., within strict timeframes. Planning to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
    • Coordination of schedules across many different facilities and multiple groups within the organization to meet required timeframes.
    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Vocational training or Associate Degree in field related to fire systems and/or maintenance preferred

    License/Certification:

    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Fire inspection licenses preferred

    Experience:

    • At least one year of related experience.
    • At least three years of related experience preferred

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
    • Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision.
    • Proficiency with using PCs including working knowledge of MS Excel / Word as well as iPhone apps.
    • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
    • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as necessary for position.
    • Ability to use common hand tools.
    • Familiarity with reading gauges, meters and blueprints.
    • Ability to work safely in assigned facilities.
