FIRE CAPTAIN jobs in Sparks, NV

FIRE CAPTAIN manages a team of firefighters. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and serviced. Being a FIRE CAPTAIN directs training and conditioning activities. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, FIRE CAPTAIN leads and coordinates responses to fire events, hazardous material incidents, auto accidents, and search and rescue operations. Prepares post-incident reports as required. Leads or coordinates fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The FIRE CAPTAIN manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a FIRE CAPTAIN typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Essential Functions

    Service, maintenance, repair, and installation of pre-engineered fire suppression systems, portable fire extinguishers, exit/emergency lights, and additional fire protection/life safety equipment as skills develop.

    Job Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • mechanical skills including use of hand and power tools
    • Physical ability to lift 75 pounds, work overhead and on ladders, climb/maneuver
    • Ability to accurately complete electronic forms/documents
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
    • Ability to travel
    • Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, nights, and weekends
    • Ability to work independently, with a team, and report to management
    • Flexibility to work rotating on-call schedule
    • Ability to communicate professionally and technically with customers
    • Ability to sell new account services to existing and new customers on the route
    • Ability to maintain quotas as set forth by management
    • Ability to meet deadlines.
    • Existing knowledge or acquire knowledge related to industry fire and construction codes
    • Ability to pass a drug test
    • Clean driving record

    Experience

    • Relevant: 1 year experience (preferred)
    • Hands-on Tools: 1 year experience (preferred)
