FIRE CAPTAIN manages a team of firefighters. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and serviced. Being a FIRE CAPTAIN directs training and conditioning activities. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, FIRE CAPTAIN leads and coordinates responses to fire events, hazardous material incidents, auto accidents, and search and rescue operations. Prepares post-incident reports as required. Leads or coordinates fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. Each Captain will be responsible for an area of fire department operations: · EMS operations and training · Fire & Rescue operations prevention and training · Rolling stock, Facilities, Small Equipment, Haz-Mat training and operations. Performs other related duties as directed by the Fire Chief or other senior officer.

Employee is regularly required to work in a variety of weather conditions and for long periods of time requiring sustained physical
activity, sit, see, use hands, reach and lift with hands and arms, climb or balance, speak and hear, bend or stoop, lift and/or move
up to 100 pounds. Employee must be physically and mentally capable of performing interior structural firefighting duties. Employee
is responsible to work in a safe and efficient manner under all circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, work with explosives, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Working conditions are typically quiet, but may be loud when at an emergency scene.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Must have high school diploma, Firefighter II certification from State of Ohio, Ohio EMT-P certification and maintain; must have or
obtain Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification, Ohio Fire Assistant Instructor, Ohio EMS Continuing Education Instructor, and
Hazardous Materials Technician within one year of appointment; must have or obtain within one year CPR, CPR instructor, and all
other certifications required by the Fire Chief and the State of Ohio; possession of a valid state driver’s license; minimum of 5 years
of experience in fire department and EMS activities; or any combination of education, training, and work experience which provides
the required skill sets to perform the essential functions of the job. Previous fire department leadership/supervision preferred.
